who play Star Wars: The Old Republic?

anyone who has grown tired of wielding swords and using bows to cope with his or her enemies is welcome to join in Star Wars: The Old Republic and experience a thorough change.

Most of us beta'd it for a year, pre-ordered, played like madmen through Christmas break, got bored and quit around February. There are numerous threads on the subject.

It's like he read my mind.... But yeah, that was my experience. I had hoped that bioware had listened to all the beta feedback that I and a few other RL friends sent them about UI's, pvp issues, lag problems even on decently built machines and others. I might play again once it's F2P to finish the 1-50 storylines for the classes I gave up on.

I didnt beta but I did buy it and played it for a while. Got bored fast because it just did not feel epic. I'm a sith lord for crying out loud, I should not have to swing my light saber 50 times to kill a random mob in a warehouse. I don't enjoy running through empty capital cities either just so my admiral can tell me to go to another star system. Just tell me over the video cam that you used to summon me, dammit.

It was for sale 2 nights ago on Amazon for 5 dollars.

I wouldn't play that game again, even if they agreed to pay me 15 dollars a month.

It had some of the most unemmersive content, planets, etc. I've ever seen. I remember riding around in these huge open world maps, with not a single soul in sight. Only the occasional NPC standing there doing nothing that you couldn't even talk to.

Played beta, bought it when it came out and played through December but it just didn't live up to what it could have been.

The game wasn't horrible but they started with too many servers so you never saw anyone so you always felt like you were in a single player game. I played a lot the first month and then off and on until end of June early July. Server mergers help with the population but the way the handled that was also part of the reason I cancled. The devs always did the wait and see with everything. Try something and wait and see what would happen then a few weeks later fix what they broke.
Could have been a good game but I always felt like I was walking down a hall (even when outside).
To answer the original question, no I don't play anymore. When it goes free to play I could see me playing once in a while but I don't see me ever going back with any kind of commitment.

Disappointment of the decade.

("but there was voice acting for all the quests!")

Doesn't matter, still sucked, waste of money.

Won't be back.

I wouldn't call it a thorough change. I acquired two bowcasters from the Chevin Conglomerate event for my characters and well a lightsaber is a sword with an energy blade.

I still play though.

What was the development budget for this game again? Seems like the game died kind of quick. Did they lose a ton of money?

I thought they made their money back through the sales of the game. I could be wrong.

So many good quotes in here.

True.

Also True.

The gameplay wasnt horrible. I agree with that. However I am not too sure that I agree with too many servers. The reason the game felt like a single player game was due to the fact that it WAS a single player game. The quest line was so linear that grouping with someone was a huge PITA. Not to mention... Oh yeah, I know you finished all the quests on the last planet, but we need to send you BACK to the last planet to finish off the quests for real this time.

It made playing with someone regularly very difficult.

BioWare and EA Reveal Star Wars:TOR F2P Restrictions

SWTOR's gone F2P at least. Here are the restrictions for free players...

Star Wars: The Old Republic, EA and BioWare's Star Wars MMO, has finally made the leap from subscription model to free-to-play, just less than one year after its release. Though SWTOR had strong starting numbers, a lack of new content release has caused the MMO to lose hundreds of thousands of subscribers in a few months.

More and more MMOS have made the leap from subscription to free-to-play as of late, and it was obvious that SWTOR wasn't far behind. However, in making the switch, BioWare's sectioned off significant parts of the game to be for subscribing players only.

The official SWTOR website delineates all restricted content, which happens to be everything except the story content. However, free-to-play players will be given preferred status if they decide to purchase in-game content, giving the advantages of the ability to sprint, access to bank slots, higher login priority, and increased access to chat and trade options.

For those transitioning from subscription to free-to-play, there's no need to worry about losing characters. Unfortunately, since non-paying players have fewer character slots, such a transition means players will have to make the tough decision on which characters they'd like to keep active.

BioWare's also whipped together an entire FAQ dedicated to answering player questions about the transition, including questions about how many Cartel coins subscribing players will be receiving.

That's right folks, if you don't pay, you can't even sprint, access the bank, or even use certain chat and trade options. It also sounds like you can't do any dungeons either.

Other than that, it's free to play!

We might have to come up with an annual award for shittiest F2P restricitions.

That game will fail with such a F2P model.

Why don't they use LOTRO's model ? In my opinion, it's the best model out there, with the possibility to obtain the currency in-game via normal activities, or pay to get it faster and then unlock content with that currency.
