helpHello all. I have had my Samsung LCD TV for just over a year. (of course, just enough time for the warranty to expire) I go to turn it on this morning and the picture turns on and then the screen goes black. The sound still comes out of the TV perfectly fine. I cannot see any of the menus or anything when I change the source either. I've tried unplugging the TV for a while, plugging it into different outlets and even using a different power cord. None of these have seemed to help. Am I looking at a costly repair? I've read things about back lights going out, power supplies being bad but I have no idea. Any and all insight would be greatly appreciated! |

Easiest would be if you purchased the TV with a credit card. Many credit cards offer extended warranty automatically at no cost to you.. look at the perks of the card or call your issuer. |

If you have warranty, then contact with the seller from where you have bought the LCD TV. |

Since the warranty expired you may be on your own getting it repaired. Try shining a flashlight at the screen while it is ON and you hear sound . Do you see a picture in the flashlight ? If you can see part of the picture in the flash light then its the back light or the back light power supply. If not then it's something else . If you can't get it fixed under warranty you will have to find a shop that will look at it get an estimate and go from there or replace the set. |

Bad caps come to mind, and seems likely since you can't see the menus. Look for bulging caps in the power supply and inverter section and, assuming you find them, replace them. If you do find them, replace all having the same manufacturer caps in the sections mentioned, plus other known unreliable caps if you have them in there.
I just fixed both my dual monitors (Samsung SyncMaster monitors, not TVs). Bad caps. I replaced them with better quality caps--Panasonic.
There may be other causes for the anomaly for your TV, but it seems likely to be just bad caps because of the caps epidemic. Relatively easy fix.
(Edit: norbert26's comment is related to this.) |
