[Cable HSI] Problems with older DOCSIS 2.0 modem

Folks,

Wanted to also pass along a problem I ran into with my older cable modem.

I have a DCM305R RCA/Thomson modem. It was a DOCSIS 1.1 modem that was upgradable to DOCSIS 2.0. I have had it since I got Mediacom High Speed Internet, and it was before it was Mediacom.

It went through the upgrade from 1.1 to 2.0, and has been chugging along.

I had been considering getting an new modem, but was holding off until the dust had settled with our impending system reconfiguration here in Jeff City.

Well, when the dust had settled from my most recent service call, a modem swap was one of the things that fixed my problem, but it was not as simple as my old modem being bad. It was just not aligning with the downstream channel that the newer DOCSIS 2.0 only modems were using. It was strange but it pushed me over the cliff to go get one.

If you are in a Mediacom area that is going to be upgrading to all digital soon, and you have a really old modem that you own that is a DOCSIS 1.1 that was upgraded to 2.0, might be a good time to spring for a new inexpensive DOCSIS 3.0 modem. I went for an 8 x 4 channel to make things a little more future proof, but there are some 4 x 4 channel models that Mediacom has on their supported modem list that will work fine as well.
