poor latency, poor speeds and packet loss for 3 weeks.

I have Suddenlink 15/1 cable internet service in Conroe, Tx. I have had it since 2004. For most of the past 8 years service has been reliable, with only a few glitches. The past 3 weeks has been another story though.

I have been having poor download speeds with numbers as low as 0.4 Mbps, and packet loss as high as 100% on some hops within the Suddenlink network. I gave it a few days before contacting suddenlink support who promptly had me do the standard shut down and restart everything, even though I know this will do nothing for a router that is dropping 50% of the packets that hit it in Tyler, Tx. When this did not do anything I stated it was a network problem and provided traceroutes, at which time they wanted to schedule a technician to come on site as they said it must be my inside wiring (I went through this a year ago and had to raise a lot of hell before a several technicians said my inside wiring was fine). The day the tech was supposed to come out, he called and said his supervisor said there were KNOWN network issues and to give it a week and if it was not better to call back.

So last week I contacted support again and they said they wanted to send a tech on site, but I objected and stated why, they said i would be called. I have not been called, nor has the situation improved, during peak use hours the packet loss goes way up, pings on pingplotter and traceroute show response times as high as 1500ms.

I wish I knew what it took to get halfway decent communication with Suddenlink. These problems are rare, but when they happen it makes me want to scream and change providers, sadly the only other provider I know of is worse (I used to work for them...).

Send a site pm to SDL L3Tech See Profile with some recent traceroutes via pingplotter, or post them here in this thread, and direct his attention to this thread.

Everyone has had good luck contacting him in the past, and I have no doubt it will work for you.

Extreme latency like that to the first Suddenlink hop usually indicates one or more of the following:

a) the node's upstream is over utilized (currently has plenty of bandwidth)
b) the customer is using all of the upstream bandwidth that the modem has to offer (i.e. the contracted cap) (not seeing it cap right now)
c) the modem is having problems and needs to be replaced
d) a severe RF plant problem (plant looks clean)

I'm running a Pingplot to your modem and two neighboring cable modems and I am only seeing the high latency to yours. Please see my PM for more information.

No packet loss, but unacceptably high latency. 2.3 Mbps down as well...
