meter your 4620L data cap

Just signed up for the 4G 4620L and did a search on checking usage during the month, is there a method to do this?

I'm using the VZ access manager now with my USB 760 3G thumb drive, How does it work with my Verizon working with a Millenicom account?

Go to my Verizon and register the phone number of the 4620.

I just switched over from a 10 GB/mo Verizon data plan for UML290 modem. Verizon's data metering is extremely suspect IMO. I routinely had big differences from the totals shown 1 or 2 days before Billing and then the t otal shown when the Billing period closed. And I was even charged retroactively for usage from a prior Billing period that was 'amended'.
I would recommend using tools on your equipment to monitor usage when/if you need to challenge any usage overage or complaints.
Right now I don't think there is much if any consumer protections against incorrect or inaccurate wireless data usage metering. So far my experience with Verizon's wireless data metering indicate it is neither reliable ( by their own admission in my bill) or accurate.
To be safe you must be able to produce your own usage metering numbers with explanation off the tool & metrics recorded if you need to defend yourself.

Any recommendations on tools you are using to monitor data usage?

How would I do this? I've looked around in my account and can't see anything that would allow me to register my 4620.

ETA: Never mind I realized I needed to set up a new account just for the mifi. It was a duh moment.

I will soon be getting the 4620L from millenicom. I am going to take the SIM card out, put it in a pantech UML290(with an adapter), plug it into my MBR1000, buy a cheap dell 2300 router from ebay, load DD-WRT onto the dell router, turn the wireless off on the mbr, plug the mbr into the dell router, and boom. I am now able to monitor data and even see which devices are using what amounts with the DD-WRT firmware.

Although you could do that with a 4510L, I think the SIM in the 4620L is a different size and won't fit the UML290. I suggest you check the specs first.

In the topic "Best antenna/amp for verizon LTE?" the guy put the sim from the 4620L in the UML290 and it worked fine. That's where I got the idea from.

Oh, thanks. You saved me some frustration in the future. I added an adapter to the list.

Jim_in_VA is correct, you will need to use an adapter for the SIM card from the 4620L to use it in the UML290. I'm the one who talked about moving the SIM in the previous thread but I didn't mention using the adapter - I should have but just didn't think of it.

It does work though, I have been using the UML290 with the 4620L SIM card for over a month now with no problems.

Interestingly, I set up an account on Verizon for this device so I can track my usage and Verizon sees it as a UML290 instead of a Hotspot so they must be able to determine what kind of device the SIM card is running in.

I'm curious to know if Verizon sends you any kind of warning about a data cap at any point during the month since we all know they don't allow as much data on any of their plans as Millenicom does.

I can confirm that they do (just switched over from VZW 10GB/mo modem plan). You get warning emails at like 75%, 90%, 100%, and overrages.

But I can also state with no uncertainty that their usage metrics are unreliable - by their own admission. I can show you a bill with 3GB of charges for retroactive usage in a previous cycle, aside from that being a rediculous practice (a company admitting they don't have a metering system reliable enough to provide accurate data during the billing cycle - which incorporates a 2 or 3 day billing cycle window) I am reasonably certain I could win in court if I wanted to challenge the retroactive billing.

The lesson I learned is an important one though, you need to meter your usage reliably yourself and maintain it for each and every billing cycle if you want to provide evidence to the contrary when charged for or accused of going over your data cap.

I use the Cradlepoints tools for tracking data use on an adapter.

Thanks for the heads up, I just enabled data tracking on my MBR95.
