surge join:2008-01-08 Bancroft, ON | [Internet] Just ordered 15/10 service -- Install Question I just ordered the 15/10 service. I am wondering what I can do to make the install go smoothly for the tech. the basement ceiling is removable tiles and the room where the phone jack would be already has a dedicated line from the NID. The jack location is accessible from the basement. What else is involved in the installation process? |

| Figure out where the primary wired internet connection is to be located. This will usually be where the modem/router is placed unless you have already cat5 cables already run. Locate the demak point where the telephone lines come in and make sure it is accessible.
If you have only one telephone line the modem/router can be placed at any phone jack. Make sure there is a power outlet nearby. |

surge join:2008-01-08 Bancroft, ON | The line runs from the jack in the wall to the basement to the box demarc in the house. Perhaps I used the wrong term with the NID
Do they install any special line filter etc? Or is it just plug the modem into the jack and set up the service? I want to make it as easy as possible and if ghey need to run new wire or whatever to the room I will move the ceiling tiles in the basement beforehand. |

| reply to surge A POTS splitter is installed, usually at the demarc point but it could be in your room. One output leg goes to the modem/router and the other the the telephone lines.
There are usually three twisted pairs in the telephone wire, so there are lots of options available for the location of the splitter. |

I would suggest to clear the point where the line comes in and clear the area around the modem jack |

surge join:2008-01-08 Bancroft, ON | Thanks for the information. I think it should be a fairly easy install by what you guys are telling me. Everything is accessible and easy to work on. We will see what actually happens when he/she comes tomorrow evening. |

surge join:2008-01-08 Bancroft, ON | Well...... Bell messed up again. It seems that despite 2 agents telling me that my install was scheduled for tonight, it was cancelled yesterday. I didn't find out about it until this evening when it occurred to me that I had never received a confirmation email. I fired up the chat option on Bell's site. That is when I found out that it had been 'dropped' yesterday. Apparently due to them being unable to confirm the install with an installer. I get the reason but what irks me is that I never received a phone call or message from Bell that the install needed to be rescheduled and then a number to call to do so. I guess they were just going to let me sit home and wait all evening. I spoke with Rain in the Internet office (this time by phone) she placed the order again and is going to contact me tomorrow with a time in the next 5 business days. Hopefully this time it will be installed. Like I said it isn't the installer being unavailable or even the installation being dropped that bothers me. It is the fact that Bell lacked the common decency to inform me that it had been dropped. |

 | maybe the installer is a third party contractor, and bell has no control over them showing up or not? |
|
 | Mine is scheduled for today I got the email yesterday reminding me hopefully they show up |
|
 | The guy showed up the TV is up and running as is the internet and phone
No hassel at all

surge join:2008-01-08 Bancroft, ON | reply to surge I get the possibility of it being a third party, but Bell knew on Sunday that the ticked had been dropped and didn't inform me at all.
But I did call back today and spoke with another agent, who empathized with my issues, it seems that the person I was speaking to last night never entered the order either. Tonight's agent reentered the order, gave me a confirmation order and arranged for the modem to be sent to me by Friday and then I can do the self install. I am also getting a nice discount for my troubles. |

surge join:2008-01-08 Bancroft, ON | reply to surge So an update: Well, Rain never called back, I spoke with another agent on Tuesday night who said that the modem would just be shipped to me by Friday. It never arrived. I called back and then was finally told that there was a problem with my line (Apparently it spikes at 19Mbps then drops back to 13Mbps down and only 1Mbps up) This is why their system wouldn't let the orders go through. I am still upset and frustrated that their system didn't contact me to say that the order didn't go through and to have me contact the Internet Office. But in the mean time my line profile was upgraded and now I am getting speeds of 11.1 Mbps up and 1.0 down. using my same Speedstream 6520 modem that is connected to my fibe 6 service. |
