1 edit | Steam for linux: Beta on Ubuntu 12.04 »steamforlinux.com/?q=en/node/122···inux.com quote: For those who missed it, the public beta testing of the Steam Linux client is intended to be started this month, while the number of participants will initially be limited to 1000. Also, at the beginning, only Ubuntu 12.04 is going to be supported. For all of you who could hardly await the release of Steam for Linux, there is a way to run Steam on Linux using CrossOver or even enjoy a great game collection natively on Desura in the meanwhile.
But I'm sure there will be those that find a way to get it to run on older versions of Ubuntu. Sucks they are limiting the beta at first to just a thousand, but it also makes sense. -- Is a person a failure for doing nothing? Or is he a failure for trying, and not succeeding at what he is attempting to do? What did you fail at today?. |

 | Re: Steam for linuux: Beta on Ubuntu 12.04 Yay for KF - and kudos to Tripwire. I remember when it ran native as a UT2K4 mod. Glad they made that move, though I doubt it was hardly "unreal"istic to port it back. (haw haw)

I hope they provide Steam for GNU/Linux in general. Release the usual rpm/deb/*.gz packages or yum/apt/emerge/pkg_add ways of adding software.
Heck, it's mostly just the games, the Steam Linux "client" has been around for years, if you count the dedicated server update tool. :P |

| reply to Snakeoil It would be nice to see The Last Remnant be natively ported to Linux, even though the game is a bit too demanding in my AMD A6-3400 with a built-in AMD Radeon HD 6520.
Even though I'm a JRPG guy, I found The Last Remnant's battle system a bit too complex to understand. Sometimes I blindly make choices and did not realize I took items away from other unions all the time...whoops! |

 | reply to Snakeoil I think its time to start dual booting my main machine again. Right step in the right direction. When I get my hands on it, I will be testing it on mint KDE |
