Things about avast! I didn't realize

Taken from their facebook page:

"In 1988

Pavel Baudiš writes a program to remove the Vienna Virus and with Eduard Kuera starts ALWIL Software cooperative, to release the first avast! antivirus"

"avast! is the first Windows 95 antivirus program
1995
A young Ondrej Vlek (current AVAST CTO) joins ALWIL while completing his university studies. He writes the first antivirus program for Windows 95."

"ALWIL Software provides the avast! antivirus engine to McAfee, which licenses it for use in its own line of McAfee antivirus products – proving the effectiveness of avast! antivirus technologies with the "Powered by avast! engine" logo on the McAfee VirusScan boxes. Also, ALWIL hires its first tech-support specialist, Pavel Mourek."

The first antivirus program was F-Prot not Avast.

F-PROT Antivirus is easy to use and light on computer resources. The latest antivirus scanning engine, version 6, builds on a long history of reliability, speed and power.

FRISK Software was founded in 1993 by Fridrik Skulason, who first developed the popular F-PROT Antivirus (for DOS) in 1989 and the world's first heuristic behavior scanner in 1991.

F-PROT Antivirus can be integrated into a range of products and offers a scalable antivirus solution. We offer an SDK kit on many platforms: Windows, Linux (x86/PPC/MIPS), BSD, Solaris (Sparc/x86), Mac OS X.

That information is also published on Wiki. I too believe that F-Prot was in fact first, but I can't prove it at the moment. I'm thinking prehaps it might have been first to run in an MS-DOS shell? I don't really know. But I used F-Prot back in the day of MS-DOS 6.22, Windows 3.1, Windows 95 and Windows 98SE.

It says first AV for Windows 95; NOT the first AV!
