Re: MOCA connection Problem What am I missing?

Are the two coax runs to the outbuildings both from the main location, or 400' to one, then 800' from there?

If you used to be able to connect Actiontec to ECB2200 400', but now need an ECB on both ends, the lightning zapped the coax somewhat. Especially since the ONT/Router connection is also out of commission.

Been there, done that. Lightning makes a mess of things, and you can't always tell just by looking. If it was me, I'd replace the coax (guessing it's used for TV, how's that working?), but also consider running ethernet at the same time. You can get up to 300 meters on ethernet before it becomes marginal.

If you run new, make sure you select direct burial for the wire specs. Ethernet to your remote location will give you better performance that MoCA.

The ethernet specifications state the limit is 100 meters (328 feet). Can you get more than that? Probably, but don't count on it.

@OP: MOCA is a mesh network. Each MOCA device has to talk to every other MOCA device. How are your coax connections configured? Is each home run to the house, or are they does the second out building connect to the first. In either case, you effectively have a run 1200 foot run if you're trying to connect both over the same MOCA network. If the second building is connected through the first, add in more loss for a splitter.

If the 800 foot run works with two ECB2200s, then the 400 foot run should also work with two ECB2200s. If it doesn't, then your coax on the 400 foot run is probably fried.

Oops, I got my units mixed up. I know 400 feet tested good on an ethernet test before I chose a focused wireless signal. I didn't want to bury 400 feet of wire.

The ethernet spec is 100M without a repeater....
