rp @comcast.net | [STB] Guide does not work on RNG150N Hi,
Just got Comcast service in my new apartment and have two RNG150N cable boxes. The guide does not work on either. I am able to get channels (both HD and SD.) I can change channels using up/down as well as manually entering a channel number. No menu ever shows up on the tv though - and if I hit guide or on demand, or menu on the remote, nothing happens. Power light flashes when I press these buttons which indicates the box receives the key press.
Been working with Comcast support, doesn't seem like they're going to be able to figure it out. I don't really want to have to wait for a tech to come out again.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance. |

With some Motorola-based boxes, if it is configured to output HD on the HDMI/DVI/component outputs, it will NOT output graphics on the SD outputs (composite and RF). If it's configured to 'upconvert' SD to HD, you won't get graphics on the SD channels, either.
Make certain you are using the proper input on your TV and output from the box. |

Boxes can take several hours to update firmware and install the latest versions of Guide and VOD apps before either work if an update was pushed or the box when through a "factory reset". IF the box is powercycled or disconnected from the coax during that time, it'll start the process over.
The other thing is that if the OOB channel is missing or messed up, neither the guide or the VOD apps will load. -- If it's important, back it up... twice. Even 99.999% availability isn't enough sometimes. |

Comcast support had no idea. |

andyrossPremium,MVM join:2003-05-04 Schaumburg, IL | The guide is supposed to be only 4:3, even on HD channels. I think the newer X1 guide in limited areas supports 16:9. |

Yes, once SA/Cisco boxes are updated to the new "S26" version of guide software, users have found that instead of having the previous 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, the guide is now 4:3.
See this previous thread about that: »[HD] Guide not Widescreen |

 | reply to rp For the 4:3 issue ,with the converter off hit the guide button on the remote and it will pull up a setting screen. Once in that you can change it to what u need. For resolution with converter off hit the HD zoom button and it will let u select and test the resolution. |

To make sure, press "cable" first then try for the menu. |
