There are lots of reasons not to update. Lots of people were annoyed with IHeartRadio posted an update where you have to start logging in using FaceBook. If you didn't save the app trashed by iTunes you were stuck using FaceBook.

Ok that's totally a first world problem now isn't it?
#1- Who doesn't have a Facebook page?
#2- Who cares if the app uses your Facebook login to login? The only reason they do that is because its a free app and they want to make a buck. I have yet to see a paid app require you to login through Facebook.
#3 I understand the point you're trying to make, but I still feel it's best to update as new updates arrive. From my experience with the hundreds of Apps I've had in the past is that updates have fixed more problems or enhanced the App more than it has ever broken them. I try not worry about every little thing that's not in my control. :)

I too am rocking an ip4 . I become eligible for an update late this month HOWEVER i am being hard pressed to do so. My old trusty ip4 still serves me well and i do not see and urgency to update it . (Edit to add: Since the OP i have been finding less to like about IP5 and loosing interest in "upgrading". )

Under whats new the update just said full support for iPhone 5 screen. A week or two ago there were bug fixes for iOS 6 and it was playing fine. Now after the iPhone 5 screen update the game hesitates every so often as the CPU strains on the older hardware. I can't roll back to the older version that worked well with the older hardware . So now i have to live with this until i can CHURN the phone out for a new handset and continue the CHURN cycle .

Agreed. It is ridiculous how many times the "air hockey" game has been updated over the years. Do I really need a new version that adds a 2nd puck, then a 3rd puck then changes the color of the puck? Just make a new damn game already and stop reinventing the freaking wheel.

Sometimes the update is not desired, but the current state of the app is. I resisted updating radio.com for months, but I finally got tired of the stupid fucking "1" on the App Store. I updated it, and I think it was a mistake.

Because a lot of the time it is just fluff or a tiny minor code change, which could have easily been rolled together and pushed out, say, once a month in a package rather than 14 updates in a month (which I have seen happen). This creates the red badge icon whenever there is an update (at least one a day) which just annoys me.

Why not detect what hardware is being offered the update and skip older hardware that does not need it. It may not hurt but i don't see how the added bloat will help older hardware either. There is a big delta between iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 in specs .
