Creative Expressions #310Hi there, everyone! Kathy_9 has passed the CE torch on to me this week, so here are some stock images for everyone to work on. I've already resized the longest side to 1024 for your convenience. To those who usually lurk, come on in and try your hand at these - you know you want to. Have fun!

Great shots to work with, and for everyone who likes to play here, thank you for taking on the duty of the host. As with other participation threads in just having fun of rendering shots, it has begun to become very difficult to get positive responses...yet those who have replied with a negative response have somehow managed to participate with their renditions. It's not all fun and play for these artistic threads, and I, for one, appreciate greatly your giving a positive response and being a gracious host. |

I like both. What did you use? It's a very cool effect. |

I used a boatload of effects, just adding effects and blending layers; I don't think that I could exactly duplicate it if I was tortured - lol. Some effects I used were Lucis ED (brightening & sharpening), Redfield Perfectum (smoothing) & Fractilus (adding that sketchy look), Topaz Simplify (brighten colors), Tiffen DFX (for glow, tone and fog), Filter Forge (vignetting).
I was trying to get sort of a Pre-Raphaelite look with the second one. |

I've posted the following in the DI Chat and the current Artify thread in order to reach the widest possible audience: Afraid Of Hosting An Artify Or Creative Expressions Thread?
If so, then there's no reason to be.
While those of us who enjoy playing in those threads like to work on images actually taken by the hosts, there's no requirement in either thread that you have to provide images you've taken yourself. So it really doesn't matter if you haven't taken any pictures recently, or even if you don't have a camera - neither of those reasons prevents participation either as a host or as one of the Artifiers or CE'ers.
I haven't been taking many pictures on my own, so for the last year or two I've been using free stock images from a number of sites. It only takes a few minutes to pick out some images and voilĂ ! you've created joy and happiness for both the participants and the viewers - and, dare I say it, a little bit of peace in the world. What could be better than that?
Remember, too, that even though you are the host of the thread, there's no requirement for you to participate in the actual work on the images if you don't have the time or aren't inclined to for whatever reason. We've had a lot of hosts who have just been kind enough to post images for everyone to work on.
For those of you who may not be aware of the sites, here are some that I use:
TurboPhoto: »www.turbophoto.com/Free- ··· -Images/
stock.xchng: »www.sxc.hu/home
PhotoRack: »photorack.net/index.php
stockvault: »www.stockvault.net/
So the next time Hank (for the Artify thread) or one of the CE participants sends you a PM asking if you'd be willing to host, please don't brush it off. If you can spare a few minutes to help out, it would be greatly appreciated and will continue the great community spirit of this forum! |

What she said. Don't be afraid to participate either. We all started with simple skills. I've used CE and Artify to hone my skills and learn lots of new stuff. It became a wonderful motivation for me to grow my knowledge. You don't need to use the unwieldy Photoshop monster. Lots of free software is available. |

That's right. One of the easiest ones to use is the freeware Photoscape: » www.photoscape.org/ps/ma ··· ndex.phpIt's much more advanced than Paint, but is simpler to use than GIMP, which is another great freeware program: » www.gimp.org/I knew squat about photo editing until I tried my hand at an Artify a few years ago - and that only involved inserting a ghost image on the top of a dark cave one, and then realizing that the clone tool could be used to blend the edges between the two images so it looked like one image. It wasn't hard and I had a great time physically creating the effect I could see in my mind. |
