Just install a third party tethering app like PDANet or FoxFi (Verizon isn't allowed to block them) and connect to your phone. They can't bock them but they can still insist you pay for the service.

I'm just tyring to point out that they are not doing anything worth being paid for. Kind of like when ISPs used to try and charge by the computer at your house. They woke up and decided to charge for something real. An IP address...
