Draiman posted : Both our cats did that until the vet said it was possibly a wheat allergy/intolerance. We switched to "Blue" (chicken flavor) which is grain-free. No problem since except the occasional hairball but there's nothing you can do about that. We have our food in auto feeders so both cats can eat as much or as fast as they want. Even the veterinary diet stuff isn't grain-free so not good enough for animals with allergies/intolerances. I'd switch to a grain-free diet for a month and see how that goes.
--
IF YOU FIND ANY MISTAKES IN MY WORK...Please consider that they are there for a purpose.
HFB1217 posted : My Eight year old woofs food down and then she throws up after a little while so I give her small portions a few times a day and it seem to help also I have refrained from feeding her foods that are very rich fish types like Salmon or Tuna. I feed her mostly turkey and chicken wet foods also some White fish and chicken mix.

Just a suggestion your cat may not like or can not tolerate the new food that the vet gave you.
Using a food that is for sensitive stomachs could be another option for him.

If he is crying and hungry after eating then the food may not have enough calories to satisfy his needs. especially if he is throwing it up.

As for Hair Balls they are not something that happens every day for a short hair or any cat for that matter. Depending upon if you brush him regularly he may upchuck a hair ball one or twice a month possibly once a week if he is not brushed.

I think it is the new food that is the problem.

PS:
I have a young 18 month old long hair with a cast iron stomach she eats like a little pig and does not barf food or hair balls.
--
*****aka The WIZARD *****A Founding member of Seti BBR Team Starfire***

sashwa posted : I have also found feeding foods that have no grain helps with the vomiting. My 17 year old cat has thrown up since I got her at 7 weeks. I always thought it was because she ate too fast or had hairballs or that the food may have been too rich for her.

I recently (3 months ago) switched her over to grain free wet food and it has helped a lot. I have also found that either a chicken or turkey food works the best for not throwing up. I've been using Wellness Chicken Formula and Turkey Formula. As well as Chicken Soup for Cat Lover's Soul Adult Hairball Cat Formula.

Like Dkat, I think a vet visit might be in order seeing you are using a Vet diet food.

A good dry food for cats with sensitive stomachs is Halo's Sensitive Stomach.
--
TH ~ NE ~ EPN ~ NC ~ TD

Dominokat posted : I had a cat (Domino) that used to eat his food gone so fast, just like yours. He too, used to vomit it up.
I did end up trying other brands of food, and found one he would eat, but not so fast and is slowed down his vomiting. It didn't end it, but slowed it down.

I would highly recommend talking to your Vet about this since you said it is a Vet diet food. Was it recommended buy him or her?
Either way, your Vet will be able to help with either another type of food, or something else.

IowaCowboy posted : Since there is no official pets forum on DSLR, I am going to post this here.

My cat is eating those veterinary diet foods and he does not seem to hold it down. He meows constantly like he is always hungry and you feed him, he eats it so fast that its gone in less than 3 minutes. He eats both wet and dry food. He has been to the vet.

I am wondering if the fact he is eating too fast could be a reason he does not hold his food down. I also wonder if hair balls are a factor. My current cat is a shorthair but my previous cat (a domestic longhair) was notorious for hair balls.
--
Romney-Ryan and Scott Brown are the Right Choice as they are Hope & Change you can count on.
