! PRINTER 2 NETWORKS?

I have a Canon mx 880 that work perfectly wirelessly. I want to know if I can attach a wired connection and use it on another network at the same time. Will this work?

give it try and let us know if it does...

The question is dependent on the printer and its capabilities.

My Canon MX 350 will work wired and wireless. It has 2 IP addresses then and you just have to use the Canon network tool to find it and update the port that is attached to the printer in windows.

Pee Wee, google 'dual WAN router' before the DSL and cable get installed. I use RV042 when possible.

Darn, one LAN with two WANs (One cable and one DSL) would have been so much more reliable, faster, simpler, and easier to maintain.

Yeah. What we'll have is one network on DSL and one on cable, trying to use one printer.

What you may have to do is connect the printer to one network, and then get a small print server box (jetdirect or similar) and connect it to the other network through the usb port.

One of your routers may have a USB port to share a printer, then you can use the wireless connection for the other network.

If both routers use the same network part subnet.........
For a example one router uses 192.168.1.1
For a example one router uses 192.168.11.1

Changing the printers subnet mask to 255.255.0.0 will
allow the printer to use multiple subnets

What routers are on each network? Provide make/model.
Can you connect the networks? If yes, just connect them and create static routes on each network to another.

WNR3500L and 2Wire2701hg-b.

Just connect the two routers via LAN port and see if you can ping the printer from both networks. If not, then you have to create static routes on each router for the other network.

Alternatively you can load dd-wrt on the WNR3500L which will allow you more granular routing and firewalling between the networks.
