Right, but my point is if you plan on getting the sub anyway isnt paying the 40 dollars now and not paying the premium sub for ~3 months just as valuable? |

this and firefall were the fps mmos I was looking forward to.
I won't be paying for early access...
and I'll only be playing the f2p version of this game...
that is if my addiction with gw2 subsides |

Almost.. but there is some big differences. If you premium your account you get the boost % based on the duration of duration of sub purchase. The boost is account wide and is implant independent.
Cashstore purchases are cosmetic, sidegrade, and boost implants.
The only key difference with alpha squad is the automatic unlock of your tier 1 weps and vehicle certs that is quite a time saving.
Beta is just Beta, they are wiping all progress at launch and everyone starts at lvl1.

Well, surprisingly enough, I'm still having lots of fun with it.
Having squads made easily of 12-40 people, and raiding places, while constantly having enemies to fight is sure a lot more fun than being in tiny squads and crossing half the map to find someone to shoot.
I think I'll be playing it for a while still, as long as they keep it on this track. Level/cert progress has been great so far. |

| Is the engine seeing some improvement? I know a friend mentioned his 560ti i5 system was having issues playing at medium. |

Not sure which problems there are. I did hear they've done some fixes to improve the engine in the last couple of updates... but I've been running it on an an i5 with radeon hd 7770 on high and I never had any problems. |

You can level, rank your battle rank to top, rank your command rank to top. gain max vehicle certs, unlock all weapons, implants, armor. There is no restrictions on the free account on gameplay.
There is rumors that only premium accounts will be able to establish an outfit (guild), that is the only restriction I've heard may happen.
The premium cash shop sells custom models, camo patterns, and various boosts. If you want to speed up leveling, pay a little $$.
Also on a side note, some awesome (unnamed) person kicked me a beta code. Thank you very much to that person, you've made it 12/25 today.

The forums that you can now access with your code will dispel many rumors.
PS2 "free" means all gameplay is free. You can pay for customization in visualization or to speed-up certain unlocks and experience gain. Squad/outfit is considered gameplay, but of course nothing is final.
You can play this game without ever spending a dime and never be on a different plane than someone shelling out hundreds of dollars, the only difference is "access time" and looks.
It has come a long way in the last year, exciting stuff. Like PS1 before it, it is a nice game to log-on, have fun, and leave. If you need 4-8 hours of daily entertainment, this game will run out in a few weeks. I was there for day one in PS1 and haven't left Auraxis yet 
Congrats on the beta! And to everyone else in beta, Amerish is to be released either tonight or tomorrow and THERE IS NO DOWNTIME THIS WEEKEND, FROM FRIDAY TO SUNDAY THE SERVERS ARE UP!

| So I've managed to play quite a bit and even experience the launch of a new continent.
It really is epic combat, if your a FPS fan its a must play. There is a good deal of depth in the various spec's. I'm a much better front line medic then an cloaking sneaking infiltrator. If your a flight sim fan, flying/dogfighting in this game is challenging, you have to negotiate terrain, anti air, and other air assets. Flight is a little under balanced but it has developer attention for the next patch.
You need an outfit, the social scene is "good" for a F2P; there is the occasional griefer but the anti grief usually takes care of them quick. Friendly Fire is always on, and it is entire possible you will crunch your squad leader under your Bus, or send your whole platoon to a fiery grave flying to a drop site.
There is a couple con's. The game is a resource hog, and being a 32bit application I've had a touch of lag/frame issues (but this last patch did smooth things out) 1920x1080 ~55frames, with a 2gb 7850.
The metagame, right now outside of territory expansion and resources there is no reason to fight. Leveling gives the reason for now but what happens when your main in level 25?
There is a total of 192 sq KM of playing area ready for the launch. You also have a ceiling at about 1.5km, so close to the max height of BF3.

BF2 is the only thing I had for a while, and being in a squad of 4-5, an taking over a cap point by killing 10 enemies was awesome and full of action...
Then this weekend, I managed to find a great squad... First of all, a squad is split into four companies, and each company has a maximum of 12 people. So a squad is a total of 48 people max. And when the squad leaders properly coordinate, those awesome times in BF2, or any other online FPS games I had seem so... tiny and boring.
Our squad was almost full, we must have been about 40 people. We had perfect coordination, one whole company took the air and just kept the skies clear for us, and when they could, gave us ground support. The second company was all tanks, and they were always around us, acting as escort when moving, or protecting us from outside enemies when taking over points of interest. The remaining two companies were in Sunders (the APCs, more or less), and we'd go from one hot spot to another, and cap the areas. Some moments really had me say wow, as I'd see our little group of about 6 or 7 choppers, about 10 tanks and two full sunders passing by a bridge that had a huge war. There must have been another 50-60 of our team mates trying to assault a bridge, and were facing as much from the other guys. It was huge, 20+ tanks, the skies were full of choppers, and at least 80 infantry were all battling it out... and there was our huge group just passing by the side. Sitting in that Sunder and watching the battle as we drove by made be say wow.
Then we decided to go around the bridge the long way, and have our whole squad ambush the other guys from the other side. Now it became a team of a 100+ pushing on both sides of a bridge a team of 100+ (they got reinforced as more people chose to go there, it was a v. hot spot) The fight for the bridge, with constant killing and not a second to rest, must've lasted a half an hour before we finally took over.
The battle can be described as one thing only, F'ing epic. And that's beta. I'm starting to have some really high hopes for this game. |

| That mirrors the 3 hour epic gankfest my outfit did to Amerish (new continent) 2 full platoons from our outfit, plus another 2 from another outfit who were coordinating using the command channels. We maxed out at 80% of the map until we become population locked and the Vanu/NC gained huge bonuses.
I gained about 70 certs and 2 ranks just swapping between medic and engineer. I'm splitting certs to Combat Medic, Enginner and Sunderer. It's cruel what a fully certed Skyguard Sunderer can do to a hostile landing zone.
I can tell by this patch that SOE is getting close to launch, the last patch almost doubled the amount of cert points you need to progress.

| Certs balancing is my bane so far. I've enjoyed every class, and have been splitting the certs with everything... but I guess I will try and stick to one or two classes once beta ends.
I also need so find some nice casual outfit before beta ends. Playing in a good platoon makes a huge difference, as you can't get much accomplished if you're being a lone-wolf. |
