and it is the interior space that counts for most people ...

and on paper and etc...

I would be OK - actually happy paying same for outdoor sq. ft. space - like a mini backyard I can always walk out onto ...

but sq. ft. = $$$ for builders ... for buyers ... for sellers :/

See that's the difference in DC and most of the country.

I like being outside.

It feels nice to be out int the air, not trapped in a rabbit hutch.

Yeah, I noticed small balconies in Paris, some had clothes drying. Others were small patios with caf� table. But most were too small for anything but a smoke.

Funny. I lived in Europe. My wife is from Europe. We have an apartment in Europe with a balcony. In my experience, all the balconies in Europe are pretty much used the same as in the US - for smoking, plants & bicycle storage; not to mention hanging laundry, satellite TV antenna, and the occasional BBQ. Yes, they do have pretty different cultures; but not when it comes to apartment balconies.

It was the same when I lived in San Francisco as well, so I don't think it's a regional thing.

I can imagine balconies being left out for whatever zoning, code requirements, budget, etc, especially in regions where the temperature makes balconies useless half the year.

and wow it feels like 80% of apartments have a balcony - and many have HUGE balconies - it's like having a backyard ...

I live in Brooklyn, NY and most of the apartments - even new ones being built now - do not have balconies ...

what is going on?

I just want to understand ...

my mother said that because many buildings in Brooklyn were built in 1930s balcony wasn't exactly a priority - but what about before that and after ... maybe it's just not our culture do that that in USA

and what about the rest of the world...
