JMikeF join:2005-05-05 Alexandria, VA | Video quality has been suffering lately too. What's up, FIOS? First, the DVRs are choking when I want to change a channel, now the picture looks like it's bit-starved with all kinds of MPEG artifacts, including horrible mosquito noise and macro-blocking. It comes and goes. I've read that others are seeing this in other A/V forums. |

Please provide links to these posts on othe A/V forums since I can't find the posts to which you "allude." Update post: still awating a substantive response from the OP. Inquiring minds need to know. |

Before Comcast's takeover they were being sent to fit 2 per QAM, now they are being sent compressed for 3 per QAM. nothing Vz can do about that -- although I still think the picture is crappier than on other services for USA and SyFy. |

1 edit | reply to JMikeF If OP would state on which channels he is experiencing the macroblocking, we could determine if it is caused by providers, Verizon, or something on his end. |

1 edit | reply to knarf829 Well, I could link you to a page that said 2+2 = 4, it would have about the same relevance. Where exactly did Verizon say or imply that adding any of these would impact "quality"?
Regardless, if we didn't have a lot of crap channels already (.TV, sports, MTV, etc.) the additional, worthwhile channels requested would have no impact on quality.
I am also experiencing macroblocking and other issues on a number of channels (the Rainbow ones, of course, but also others like Discovery, ESPN, etc.). It just goes to show that FIOS can have all the potential for quality in the world but if the source material s***s then they'll look just like Cablevision, TWC, etc. |

Of course they're not going to say that, but they're sure not leaning on video quality in their advertising as heavily as they had been, either.
2+2 does, indeed, equal 4, and video quality has indeed started to suffer when the statmuxing began to take place.
It's nothing to get defensive over, just something to monitor. |

The past couple of days, the pic quality has stablized. I noticed the noise on Nat Geo/Discovery mostly, but it's improved. |
