This is the fascinating part, Alison Redford goes on TV crying oil prices are depressed, revenue is down.

The Americans are well on their way to becoming self sufficient in oil.

What does Canada do? Lets build a pipeline to export more to Asia, while the eastern part of Canada imports much more expensive Brent Crude.

Why not send the oil to us in the east instead? Talk about a failed economic policy.

TransCanada Pipeline has been pondering converting an existing pipeline for a while now to ship Alberta oil to Eastern Canada.

In fact there was a story in the news just yesterday of NB Premier David Alward heading to Alberta next month to push for the pipeline

Don't feel bad. Exxon Mobil made $44B in profits last year. Our money was put to good use, I'm sure.

to be fair, oil spills are expensive to clean up...i'd rather the company have enough money to pay for clean up, than be broke and unable to pay to fix the problem...it's not a perfect system, but it could be worse.

I don't suppose anyone knows what's going on in the world to cause gas prices to jump 22 cents in the last 2 weeks hmm? It's $1.32 today from $1.10 two weeks ago.

From TGPT.ca

GPT.CA Friends – Gas heading up 2.2 cents litre overnight to $131.7 in the GTA for Saturday Feb 16, as predidicted by our two day future forecast yesterday !

The rapid and unusual rise in gas prices at this time of year is the direct result of hedge funds from Wall Street to London amassing positions on literally millions of barrels of oil and gasoline. Any quick read of fundamentals shows the global economy is well supplied and demand stable. Yet concerns about a shortage of cheap blending components, needed for summer grade fuel, has commodity hedgers betting massively, without position limits, that prices will head up. The sheer size of their over-leveraged bets and positions based on rumour rather than fact, makes higher prices a sure bet. Its a nauseating and reckless repeat of the 2008 energy superbubble which threatens to disrupt the global economy, not to mention a swift kick in the pants to consumers who pay for these price distortions.

Once again, speculators getting their fingers into things to make instant profits out of nothing.

They should serious look at changing the Exchange Commodity Act in the US to prevent this.

$113.9 per litre? Did you sell your house to fill your tank?

We're at 143.127 cents per litre average in Montreal now.

And the games continue

From TGPT

ALSO NOTE THAT below cost selling in the Ottawa region (ie $ 121.9 in Carleton Place, Kanata, Stittsville, Orleans) will end overnight as prices are currently below the ability for any station to operate (before credit card charges of 2-3 %) given they automatically lose 3 cents a litre when you fill up. Motorists shouldn’t confuse these too-good-to-be-true prices as merely the product of a gas war. It is a clever reuse by vertically integrated gas chains to knock out independents who can’t compete against the deep pockets of their supplier/competitor that’s using refinery and crude profits to cross-subsidize a temporary loss at their retail level, in order to gain greater market share in the end. This is the scenario that played out in Toronto a decade ago and now, with few independents left, prices move in sync with retail margins at an eye popping 7 cents/litre for regular and 15.3 cents a litre for premium !
