Re: Gasoline Prices Below 99 Cents/Litre By Christmas

said by PX Eliezer704:

But the standard system does have its advantages. A pint of beer is just about right.

Canada uses some standard too, yes? The Canadian Football League still does everything in yards.

Most pubs around here serve a "pint" of draught in a 20oz sleeve (glass), not a 16, and half pint is usually 12oz, so the term 'pint' isn't an exact term with regards to Imperial measurement.

Yes, the CFL still uses a 110 yard field, but the conversion to metric would make for awkward game calls unless the size of the actual field was changed as a metre is 39 inches. The same can be said for hockey (still 200' x 85' for a NA sheet), and I'd guess that for both sports it's a matter of not changing an existing practice as there's no reason to.

Montreal gas prices are utterly unchanged from normal. Still ~$1.34.

Doesn't matter.

A storm will come close to the only oil refining plant in the world (usually defined as some place in Texas) and gas will shoot up by a higher percentage than what it dropped. Same old story, and has been the same story for quite a few years now.

oh look, »[Weather] Tropical Cyclone Alert - Hurricane Sandy somehow, someway, that will cause gas to spike.

127.0 here....its funny because on ...Saturday I believe it was, gas prices around here were 130.9 and as I was driving into Sudbury, I found that an esso had hiked its price to 139.9!!...fortunately the other stations hadn't taken suit or there would have been a mass riot I'm sure....I quickly filled up, but now feel like I got screwed...I thought 130.9 was a good price...oh well, that's what happens I guess...we still have a long way to go as well.

Hardly! It could have gone to $2.39 and motorists would have just brought their own lube.

You severely and completely overestimate the Canadian motorist, and consumer in general, from being anything but apathetic.

I keep my tank full, so I have time to spare if need be.

Aside from that, I'll wait for the fallout from the rest of the country. I doubt it would stay at $2.39 long, and if it did, the country would grind to a halt fast, as in hours.

You better have a big tank because people would do what they do now and use even more of their discretionary spending money on fuel.

No grinding...no halting... unless you are a oil exec getting his first manual transmission supercar.

I'd love to see your face when walking in to any store, and seeing double the prices. And, it would overnight, if not sooner.

It seems we'll have to disagree on this one.

it is why i put "off" in quotes...when you use your PCF CC or debit card at the pump here, you get 4c/liter in "Superbucks" (which is a coupon you can use in store for groceries)...as well, PCF gives you 2% "cashback" in PC Points...while it isn't cash in hand, i shop at NoFrills and RCSS anyway, so i use the coupons and PC Points regularly, so to me they are basically cash.

CT has similar programs with their CC and gas bar.

The same way you get 10c off by using the Canadian Tire Gas Advantage MasterCard.

I have PCF MasterCard & debit card. I knew about the 2% PC Points, but wasn't aware of any "Superbucks" program. Guess I should read those PCF e-mails from now on.

Diesel in Fort Erie right now is cheaper than gasoline and you get better mileage out of a tank. What's your point, vue?

People mostly wonder why because they're more prevalent everywhere overseas and they've had better fuel economy for ages. That lead is apparently shrinking but they're still more miles per the gallon...

They give us 2c/ltr in superbucks in Toronto at Loblaws based gas stations. I lose them half the time, the other half i forget about them and they expire.

Not worth the promo to me.

Down to $1.24 in some places in Montreal this morning.
Didn't think it would drop that much around here. Now it remains to see if it will keep dropping, or will the new storm destroy every refinery in the world and it'll be going back to $1.45+
