Re: Oct 23 Apple Event - Live Streaming is back

Having bought an ipad 3, I am hurting just a little bit over the fact that a few months later a new version is out with a faster processor.

Summing-up for me... I was hoping for a decently priced iPad Mini I could get my kids and that iTunes update. Neither happened.

Oh well.

Wow it must really suck if you bought the ipad 3.

Why? You can always wait & wait and never pull the trigger for electronics products if you say to yourself the next version will be better.

Very true but the point here is the new one came along just 6 months later.

I bet this thing will be even less serviceable, I bet the RAM is non-user upgradeable either...

Not sure how much to read into this, but from the apple website:

Or add more memory to the 27-inch model yourself by popping open the easy-to-access memory panel on the back.

I think its because The A6 six chip has less involvement from Samsung in the design. So probably lower cost of ownership for Apple and a bigger FU to samsung.

Ok, so only the 27" is upgradeable? That would suck.

Hmm.. Is it me or are all the new products in the Canadian store are the same price as US store? That's a welcome change. Some were always higher than US, even though our dollar was at par or higher.

Sure seems that way. 21.5" has 2 slots - at least it's not soldered. Probably have to go in through the front to access them.

The 27" has four slots, with an access door.

21.5" iMac seems to be gimped with non user upgradeable ram, and what appears at first glance to be a 2.5" laptop drive at 5400rpm...

I'm really digging the super thin iMac. I had been holding off on switching to a Mac at work because two programs I used were only available on Windows and didn't want to go the whole virtual machine thing. Now those programs are available in the cloud and can be used on a Mac. Either I get one for my office or one for my home but the specs are super.

Agreed the resolution isn't impressive, but it's yet another case where you have to chose practicality over specs.

The only resolutions that made sense for the iPad Mini were 1024x768 or 2048x1536. If it was the higher one, people would be screaming about the $429 (my guess) starting price. If it was anything in between, the tens of thousands of iPad apps already in existence would not work properly on it. Android doesn't have that "problem".

What makes you think those are the only two resolutions? They could have easily used 1600x1200, its 4:3 and would have scaled down retina capable apps, and scaled up non retina apps...

1600x1200 would probably be close enough PPI to the iPad3/4's retina PPI

Why? It's a discontinued product now. Good luck trying to sell that.
