| [iPad] [Poll] iPad WiFi or 3G I always wondered which version people own, so I figured I'd ask. For those with the 3G version there are two options: those that regularly use the monthly contract and those that don't use it. Thanks! Poll Which version of iPad do you own? |

buckinghamBuckingham Pa join:2005-07-17 Buckingham, PA | reply to haroldo My iPad does have 3G capability and because it was awarded to me by my employer, they pay for the 3G service. That makes it very convenient when I'm traveling on business since I most often only take my iPad and leave the crusty old XP work laptop at home. When I'm stationary, I tend to use my ATT LTE hotspot to provide WiFi access to my iDevices (and PC if it's along for the ride). The 3G comes in handy a lot as the WiFi on Amtrak and in many hotels is, um...less than optimal.
My wife's and my daughter's iPads are WiFi only. |

| reply to haroldo I'm always in for cellular data on things because tethering will kill your phone battery but the premium apple charges for the modem is too high for me. Go for wifi + tethering via phone (root your phone).
But i have to say the new family share plans look tempting. Only $10 for a tablet is pretty damn nice. -- I found the key to success but somebody changed the lock. |

ThinkdiffPremium,MVM join:2001-08-07 Bronx, NY kudos:6 | reply to haroldo I've been paying $25 for 2GB through AT&T since I got my iPad 2 last year and continued when I got the iPad 3. I really don't use 3G much, and I keep wanting to cancel the plan. But then there's always a few times a month when I really appreciate having the 3G option. Hard to say if that's worth $25/mo + the up-front cost. -- University of Southern California - Fight On! |

But if I got an Ipad3 (or likely ipad4 by the time I am ready to upgrade my tablet) it would be wifi only. Just like my tab is wifi only. -- [65 Arcanist]Filan(High Elf) Zone: Broadband Reports |
