[Internet] 15/10 soon: will 2864 modem still break LAN->WLAN str
So I've ordered 15/10 as an upgrade, install is supposedly on Thursday. My biggest concern is since (from what I gather) all 15/10 installs get the SagemCom 2864 modem, is the issue of streaming media from hardwire to wireless (LAN->WLAN) still broken? I'm not subscribing to Fibe TV, since they don't have muchLoud (which is owned by Bell, go figure), and I watch it quite a bit.
I saw many posts about this issue that seemed to have died off in March of this year, and I was wondering if Bell has fixed this issue. I stream from several different machines, 2 of which are wired, to my PS3 via WMP11 streaming and PS3 Media server, and things have been fine on the old 2Wire box.
As well, I'm worried the wifi signal will be crap- is there any way to max out the radio value in the settings for the 2864?
Thanks for any updates on my questions- hoping Bell did a firmware update to deal with this problem.

Unfortunately the wireless signal in the Connection Hub defaults to 100% and still nowhere near as good as the 2wire. I did an install a few years ago where the guy couldn't get his media stream to work either.. They have done a few firmware upgrades, but not sure if it was addressed..

Use another router behind the sagemcom. Make your cpe router do the PPPoE authentication.
the wireless for the sagecom Is great, BUT it depends on which way the modem is pointed, the antenna is a plate which points towards the side opposite of the sticker on the back, the signal is so good that it will push through concrete in apartments, just a FYI...
Good news in terms of the wi-fi!
I had seen several threads for different device issues with streaming (Xbox360, Airplay, PS3) in regards to LAN->WAN packets not being passed if the their headers indicated a streaming protocol. At the end of each of the threads there was no discussion of a resolution other than using a second router, with last posts appearing in February or March of this year.
I was just hoping if anybody recently has had this issue, or if it seems that bell pushed a firmware update to the device to handle this issue. I can always set up everything on one wifi connected machine to stream- just have to move some files, but I was hoping I wouldn't have to fork out more money for another piece of hardware if the problem had been addressed.
If I do require a second router, do I let the 2864 handle ppoe, disable it's DHCP server, setup the second router on another IP address, then use it for all LAN+WAN connections? Or is bridging needed/a better option?
Thanks again everyone!
Just a quick post since I've created an account so I can track this thread.
Ok, so an update!
It seems that the issues with LAN->WAN in terms of streaming and/or discovery have been solved with the 2864. I can see all media servers (WMP and PS3 Media Server) without issue on both wired PCs, streaming away like mad to my ps3 on a wireless connection.
As well, wifi signal is just as good as with the 2Wire router- and N to boot.
Notes- installation was superb, since the tech was an awesome guy who pulled a new line from the pole to the house since the original line had crumbling insulation- he didn't have to do this, that's another group in terms of Bell service infrastructure, but they didn't show up earlier in the day (as they had been scheduled to do) and so he said he'd do it so I'd get the best possible speeds.
Modem didn't need to to do any firmware updates once he plugged it in- he was very happy since he didn't have to wait 20 minutes! Love the USB ports on the modem- connected a 2.5" external drive, serving media as needed!
Download/upload speeds are exactly as advertised, I'm actually getting 10 up! Tech said that's pretty rare for copper to the house, but I'm only 300 meters from the neighborhood box, so I'm lucky.
All in all,no issues, absolutely happy with system performance. I must say that I don't have IPTV- not watching that much broadcast tv anymore- don't know if that would change things.
Thanks to all that replied!
