Re: Ubuntu 12.04 How many got a Black Screen?

At the OP:

I got a black screen after I upgraded on my Desktop machine... accessed the command line in recovery mode and installed XFCE on that particular machine.

My terminal foo is weak, I admit. I tried installing nvidia drivers per a page I found through google. My Nvidia drivers are up to date, or so I was told when I tried to install/update them.

I have no idea what XFCE is, [ok, I just googled it , now I know].

When it first happened, I thought the update had failed, and was "crying".
Then I googled, and found the link that I used to go to terminal and make GDM my default video handler.

I'll have to take time [some time] and go through the repositories to make sure they are up to date. Then add the unofficial Nvidia driver repository and see what happens. Maybe then I can switch back to Lightdm.
But then again, my video card is a 7600 GT, so it's old. The whole PC is old.
So that could be the issue, the modern Lightdm may not run on older video cards.

Is a person a failure for doing nothing? Or is he a failure for trying, and not succeeding at what he is attempting to do? What did you fail at today?.
