Re: [Phone] phone service now requires new modem? Lexington, KY they more than likely disconnected the power to the old arris box. the telephone service from my understanding ran out of the arris box in to the NID to your house. your telephone service is now coming out of your new cable modem more than likely and they back fed it in to your NID.
I've had 2.0 service for a couple of years and have had no issues with the service. My only issue is my alarm company wants the analog service as it is more compatible with their systems. I heard Insight doesn't compress their voice signals, so I'll just call the alarm company and see what they can do. |

1 edit | Yea I have no problems with it, no errors on the modem but my Downstream Freq/Power is higher then it was before. Just if anyone is still running on the analog phone service, your're gonna be switched to Insight Phone 2.0 regardless when they get around to you to schedule an appointment, they said over the phone that the analog phone service is going away. |

| reply to OSUGoose This sounds like he's being moved from the old analog system that Comcast shut down a few years ago and is being moved to the DigitalPhone/VoIP system.
But I don't see how a cable modem would be powered by the cable system. And since Insight is now part of TWC, that could be the reason on why there is no battery in the modem, as some regions of TWC do not support batteries- well at least they do no provide you with one. |

| reply to BoToMaTiC your modem (»www.amazon.com/Arris-TM502G-ARRI···01AMUI7W) is a standard VoIP/Digital Phone EMTA and Cable Modem. The part that plugs into the house ensures that all of the phone jacks in the home are active. And yes they do support a battery, you just are not being provided by one. If you lose power, you generally will lose Phone since it has no way to be powered on unless you have a generator or UPS. Although if your local node does not have power, you will not have phone either. |

| reply to koebner Yes I would definitely look to make sure you have a battery you don't want to learn the hardway when you lose power. My modem, which was provided by Insight in 2010, did have a battery backup included. I would check on that. You can purchase them online for a fairly decent price. I think mine is a 8 or 12 hour battery, but I cannot remember. |

 | reply to BoToMaTiC I feel pretty certain that if they switch you to this "new" service you will no longer have line powered voice and probably no battery backup. Has anyone tested by unplugging the new device from AC power? |
|
 | reply to Singular What about power within the premises? Tv ads say no backup power. |

 | reply to Doubtful Digital phone has no back-up if you lose power. The system they are phasing out should have been years ago when Comcast did their phase out. The analog system is outdated by YEARS and surprised it was still in use. |

 | I tested it last night and will need a battery, they were just moving me to digital phone since analog phone service is going away. I ordered the correct 10-hour battery fit for the Arris TM502G for $13 brand new, not bad considering the other places I saw it priced at. |

 | What you need to ask Insight/TWC is what happens in the event of a power outage. Do you still keep services even with a battery. |

Last Monday I believe it was an Insight representative came by the house but I wasn't here so she left a note stuck to the door saying it had to do with my phone services and to call this number. I called back and was told their getting rid of the analog phone service and my cable modem etc had to be switched out and as a bonus for it I was offered a free year of either Showtime or 20.0 Internet and ofcourse I opted for the 20.0 Internet.
When I was moved over to Insight Phone 2.0, it dropped my bill. I was paying Insight $146 total and now with analog phone gone, my bill dropped to $137. I only pay $70/mo for basic phone and 20.0 internet. I made them give me new customer pricing. |
