ext4 filesystem corruption bug in Linux 3.4 / 3.5 / 3.6

Details are below, but from my quick skim of the LKML post, it looks journalling-related:

»linux.slashdot.org/story/12/10/2···x-kernel
»lkml.org/lkml/2012/10/23/690
»www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=n···=MTIxNDQ

In the meantime: beware.

My kernel man in Germany said late yesterday the patch is available, but was not yet in mainline. It should be very soon.

Ext4 bug patched:

The cause of the bug that was found in Linux's Ext4 filesystem last week has been identified. The main Ext4 developer, Ted Ts'o, has written a few lines of patch code and submitted it for inclusion in kernel version 3.7, which recently saw the release of its third release candidate.

The developer says that the patch fixes the problem that can trigger filesystem errors when unusual mount options are used. Ts'o has also announced that various mount options that have not undergone much testing, and may therefore be potentially harmful, will be disabled or at least trigger a warning.

It's nice to see that Ted didn't blame the users for a filesystem bug again.
