Re: Sandy / Frankenstorm We're feeling some of the tropical storm force winds now, and even though high tide is still a couple of hours out, the Chesapeake Bay has come to visit our backyard already. |

Maybe it's the media hype. |

| You got a 3/4HP also?
Mine broke during Irene last year (used 2 pool cover pumps to stop damage). Was 1/2HP replaced with 3/4HP and first thing I noticed was that it seemed to just click on and click off with the sump emptied. The 1/2HP ran a lot longer, I was amazed at how fast the 3/4HP emptied the sump -- Was a Cruise Fanatic, one cruise on Princess cured me. Bleah |

| I got a bigger generator than that but didn't stock up on gas. Had to take it for service from old gas gunking it up last year.
Read that ideally I should be using premium, no ethanol (non-Oxygenated) gas, which the closest I can find is at a Baltimore City marina (looks like the only places that may carry it is a marina) Got enough gas to run it for 6 hours.... -- Was a Cruise Fanatic, one cruise on Princess cured me. jmn1207Premium join:2000-07-19 Ashburn, VA kudos:1 | I stepped outside to take a quick video from my apartment balcony. There is nobody around me, and I saw no reason to get dressed today, so I was still in my underwear. Anyway, a huge gust of wind slammed the door shut behind me, and the door was locked from the inside. Even when this door is locked, it still turns freely from the inside, so you have to be careful not to lock yourself out. Terrible design, if you want my opinion.
I ended up breaking my way back inside and had to repair the broken door jamb.
Never even got a chance to take a video.
Time for some beer.
Edit: Thought I might have had to ride out the storm of the millennium on my balcony in my skivvies. |

| Saw this but can't get site to fully load so I can't post all 9 tips to have your cell phone last the storm
Just saw this, can't get site to load so can't see last 4 points
»www.nextgov.com/mobile/2012/10/n···dropdown
1. Fully charge your laptop, and save that charge for your phone.
2. When the power goes out, turn off all the radios on your phone youre not using: WiFi, Bluetooth, etc.
3. Keep your phone plugged into a charger until the power goes out.
4. Turn off all push notifications on your phone.
5. Restart your phone to kill all the apps that are running now. -- Was a Cruise Fanatic, one cruise on Princess cured me. Bleah |
|
jmn1207Premium join:2000-07-19 Ashburn, VA kudos:1 | 6. Turn down the brightness on your screen.
Displays on phones are the other major battery hog. Turn down the display to the lowest level at which you can still read it.
7. Send text messages instead of making phone calls.
Text messages are tiny amounts of data, sent quickly, and do not tax your phones batteries the way a phone conversation does. Plus, texts are more likely to get through when the cell network is overwhelmed.
8. Borrow a cell phone car charger.
Sure, if you have a car, you should already own one of these items, but in a pinch, maybe your neighbor has one.
9. Do not use your phone.
This may seem obvious, but its easy to forget, in our fiddly, always-on age that you can step away from your mobile device except for periodic updates on the progress of the storm. Remember that if repair crews are overwhelmed, power could be out for days. |
