| reply to alphapointe Have to agree, Brad. Tornadoes can be deadly, but you can save lives by having and hiding in a basement. The warning systems are pretty good in the Midwest, too.

Yeah, I still have power! The cable TV is breaking on and off, the wind outside is roiling a little, some rain already. I just took my AC unit out (the computers make a lot of heat in this tiny apartment.
One concern for me here is that the windows are paper thin glass and my building super says the wind keeps blowing out the water heater, so cold showers coming, already happened once.
Anyhoo, y'all be safe, I'll check in as I can.

| reply to PeteC2 I'm getting brownouts/surges now. Just got a surge protector for my system, but don't have one yet for my TV. The speaker system goes BRRUUP! when the light dims.
I wonder if I need to shut down and disconnect. I think I'll unplug the backup system in the other room now... -- Join Teams Helix and Discovery. | If it's a big deal to pay for a replacement, I would disconnect and wait it out. Tough to be without the TV right now, I know, but you'll still want to have it on the other side of the storm.
Also, I had all my computers on big, heavy, Smart-UPs back in December 2006. The winds came and there were multiple power events which jumped the protection and destroyed most of my folding fleet. -- Join Team Helix * I am praying for these friends . |

| reply to PeteC2 Ive been up on this hill, which is the highest in town, for most of my life and I have never seen the wind any stronger than it is today and its going to get stronger still. Not so bad during the daylight hours but will probably be nasty after sunset. Connecticut pulled trucks off the road at 11AM and closed to highways at 1PM to all but emergency vehicles. So far no probs with power or cable/interwebz. We did have a very heavy, fully loaded steel shelve unit blow across the deck and crush a table. Thats a new one! Its never moved an inch before. I have to fill the bird feeders at some point to keep our feathered friends happy.....thats going to be interesting I think. Dogs will need to be walked at some point also. Not sure whos going to hate that more, them or us. -- Just cause you got the monkey off your back doesn't mean the circus has left town. Team Helix- Folding@Home and Rosetta@Home |

| Not life risking, just a bit damp and breezy!
Theyre are comparing this to the hurricane that came through here in 1938. Called the Great Hurricane or Long Island Express,it was remembered to me many times by my Dad and grandparents and real bad.It killed hundreds of folks. Dont see how this one quite compares yet,but we'll see. That one hit Connecticut dead on at a time when the early warning systems of today didnt exist. Not a big fan of high winds myself so Ill be glad when this one is over. Cabin fever sets in on me about 30 minutes after waking up so Im getting kinda edgy sitting around. -- Just cause you got the monkey off your back doesn't mean the circus has left town.
