Wow, I just had my 12 year DSLR anniversary ...

I didn't even realize that 10-20 was my 12 year anniversary on DSLR. It's been a great 12 years - I joined when I was 17.

I started visiting this site around 2000 myself when I got the first available 'high-speed' internet available in my area. It was a Charter connection, at the blazing speed of 1024k/256k. I finally decided to pay for some premium points to do some testing in 2006.

Where does the time go?

** Who is behind this site? why create it?
Justin Beech built this site, (and he is still building it),
with the help of a email contributions from many others.
All the grammar problems and cheesy graphics are his fault
though. His goal is to help people find DSL with less pain
by learning from others, and stop writing in the third person.

To help spread the word about the site we kindly suggest that
if you contact an ISP about DSL you could mention you used
dslreports.com, and more importantly, if you have anything
interesting happen after you get DSL, you come back to warn or
amuse others, by posting a review, or a message.

thanks for taking the time to login and get the cookie!

Few more months to year 13. Think I was lost at least once before it a database loss or inactivity. Forget which it seems like it happens so frequently(around the web).

Lurked around even longer than 2000 while waiting for some sort of broadband in my area. But finally signed up when the dual-titanic based Flashcom/Northpoint brought SDSL to my CO.

I remember being excited when I got my first 56k modem and connecting at 51k with my local ISP. It was blazing fast!

I am one of the newer members. Joined in 2010. You must be my age because I was 17 back in 2000. Turned 18 in 2001 and graduated high school in 2002. Just turned 29 on Oct 13th and I am dreading 30 next year.

First upgraded to Broadband from dial up in 2001. My provider at the time was Mediacom. Now I have Comcast as I now live in the Northeast. Maybe the storm will damage Verizon's Ma' Bell era network and they'll find it more economically feasible to rebuild it with FiOS. Rebuilding old School DSL/pots networks is like fixing an old car that has very little life left in it (a 1956 Bell System network) when you can have a new car (a Verizon FiOS) for about the same price as fixing the old car. Verizon would be more profitable if they quit throwing good money at bad.

Verizon should at least design FiOS systems for unupgraded areas so they can execute the design if a legacy network is damaged beyond repair (with weather related issues being the biggest threat to their networks). The weather channel for the last 36 hours has been nonstop with an end of the world tone to their broadcasts. It's the gloom and doom factor that sells ads for generators, insurance companies, and Duracell batteries (and yet I pay for the priviledge to receive the Weather Channel in my Comcast bill).

That's correct - I am 29 and turning 30 next August (ahh!). I graduated in 2001. I actually used DSLR before I joined as I've been a techy for quite some time. I accessed this site after a friend told me about it and haven't left since!
