[IA] HD Cable without a box - ever happen?
I was up in Wisconsin this week and as I was clicking through the channels, I noticed that in the 300.xx range, they receive all of the cable channels in HD, with no box. These were in HD just using the QAM tuner. As someone with 6 HD sets, only two with boxes (just can't afford the other $40/mo for lesser used sets to have a box on each), this would be great to have in Des Moines. Does anyone know if it will ever happen? HD is not a novelty anymore, why do we need to pay to rent a box to do something the TV already does?
With the FCC now allowing cable systems to encrypt all channels and require everyone to have a box I highly doubt we'll have all the HD channels available to us.

Because it's all about squeezing revenue out of subscribers... even at the cost of loosing a few.... and nothing to do with providing good service or common sense/decency.
It's not just Mediacom that operates that way either--
