This is fantastic. Area upgrade to DOCSIS 3.0, house upgrade to Motorola SB6121. And this is on a wireless client. Wired is running about 24-25Mbps.

Thanks Mediacom, and Mediacom Chad!

Speed boost...

Not speed boost, which is very short-lived. This is a sustainable download.

And its done by bonding multiple downstream channels.

Note the size of the download file.

I have one of these sitting here that I'd like to get online (I also have a Mediacom-supplied telephony modem). What's the process for getting this 6121 online with Mediacom? Congrats, Matt!

Go to : »maestro.mediacomcc.com/walledgarden/ It will ask you for the account number and registration code (last 9 digits of acct number). It will then take you to another page, show you the MAC address and ask for a technicians number (9999) Once this information is entered, click "Swap" and your modem will reset.

My Motorola SB6121 is now online, and after thorough testing last evening, I can confirm that a new modem has addressed my dropped sync issues completely. So now I'm running the Mediacom-supplied Scientific Atlanta telephony modem and the Motorola, and life is good. Thank God I was a customer before the data rationing went into effect. Thanks VERY much for your help, as always, Chad. You're a treasure.

I got a 6120 a few months ago* and am finally getting awesome speeds (went from 7-8 average for years up to 20+!!)-- and since I dumped the cable portion, I'm finally a happy camper.

Additional thanks to Chad (and dslreports) for having the easy instructions already on here on how to swap your modem on your own!!

*with my unpleasant history, I wasn't willing to chance the 6121 not getting along with the network, so I found a good used 6120...

Not a chance at all. Any local dealer (Best Buy or Staples) would refund your $$ if the 6121 did not work out for you. Try that with a used Modem.

FWIW I have been using the 6121 since Feb 2012 without issue and outstanding performance.

I just replaced a Cisco DPC3825 with the Motorola SB6121 with Mediacom and received slower download speeds. I did this because of all the reviews I read. I went from 42mbs to 32mbs. I go through the Linksys EA4500 router. I am thinking of returning the Motorola. Any ideas why?

Well the Cisco you had is an 8x4 Modem, meaning it can bond up to 8 downstream and 4 upstream channels. The SB6121 is 4x4, 4 down and 4 up. This is also limited by the provider depending on your area's configuration. I would suspect that you were bonding more than 4 downstream channels with the Cisco, which would yield a higher throughput speed.

I don't think Mediacom has any areas with more than 4 downstream channels.

In my location we have 3 downstream. Not sure if that would increase with expanded demand or not.
