Re: Hurricane Sandy-Frankenstorm Outages/Updates

My internet sucks!

/thread

But srs; I'm trying to gather information if anyone else is experiencing drastically slower than normal speeds. »[OOL] Speeds are horrible right now, Sandy problem?

I guess we could post here instead.

Edit: Mostly resolved as of this morning. I am dumbstruck as to how my node can be so oversold to be crippled with 5 bonding channels. This is a first.

Edit2: Speeds are dropping steadily as more people are waking up and getting online. Definitely a congestion issue due to the massive amount of people following the hurricane.

Re: Hurricane Sandy-Frankenstorm Outages/Updates

Being in Jefferson Township/Lake Hopatcong as I am, I'm not experiencing any issues myself.....yet.

I haven't used a Line Monitor in awhile, perhaps I should start it back up to have another Morris County monitor up.

All is good in The Bronx at 10462. I am watching the wind blow hard at the utility pole where the coax comes into my house. I'm crossing my fingers it doesn't get knocked over.

Parents lost all services in Muttontown. Took my weather station data offline, been offline for over an hour. Hope it gets restored quickly, but I have my doubts.

Surprised, here in central Jersey Boost Plus is working without issues. Internet has been clean.

My connection in Roslyn is barely usable.

I don't want to call OOL just yet.

My modem self-reset 3hrs ago, until then things were fine.

I'm getting to that point.

(Boost Plus) Pretty soon I might not even be able to watch the weather channel stream. Already buffering at 240p; doing anything other than basic surfing is very difficult.

Our power held during Irene, might do so again, but until then, if I can't stay informed about this storm, things are going to get dangerous.

My speed is still good in Middle Island - »www.speedtest.net/result ··· 1217.png but lower than normal.

My girlfriend is in Ridge and lost cable about 2 hours ago ... still has power but no cable.

While on that subject ... howcome LIPA has an outage map on their website that refreshes every 15 minutes, while OOL gives us nothing?

I am good here in Medford but I am nothing to go by because all our utilities are underground and our complex I am pretty sure is on its own nodes.

Lost all cable services at 5:22PM. Came back on a minute ago (6PM).

This coincided with a power fluctuation which tripped my backup; but everything else didn't seem to be affected much (no light flicker at all).

Typical we lose cable before power, eh?

Lost at 6pm, required 2 reboots to reacquire..
there was a power spike at around 5pm as others noted, so it's probably a preemtive re-boot of the cmts/nodes... (guess)

Power went out at 6:06, came back at 6:08. No interruption to Internet connectivity (we have UPSes), but Cablevision's email server had been dead ever since.

Semi lost power but UPS still kicking and keeping the modem and router going. Didn't loose internet yet, dunno about TV as that's plugged in a different socket (no UPS). :P

Gonna try getting an extension cord to get power from the working outlets to charge this sucker to keep on going!

If you have some working outlets and some not working, you have a localized problem with half of your 220. Make sure you don't run any 220 appliances (like a dryer). I would also suggest turning off your electric water heater, if you have one.

Lost cable again a few minutes ago for a minute or two. Another line went down.

I expect it to go full loss within the next hour. May even finally lose power this time.

Edit: Wind is getting so bad, I scared. FIRST HURRICANE EXPERIENCE.

Lights flickering occasionally, but CV's service is working fine. My daughter's Minecraft session has been uninterrupted.

Oops. Lights just went out. Every 30 minutes like clockwork.

EDIT: And it's back.

Power out here. Still have a working OOL connection for now. My battery backup probably will not last long.

Ahh makes sense as the living room as the 220v socket for the AC unit - guess the bedroom is on the same circuit or something.

Think I read something where 220 is always the first to go during a storm right? The power companies cut that first?

Says about 400,000 people without power in CT now!! Guess i'm still lucky

Generally you have 220 service which is split into two 110 circuits.
