Steve Jobs high-tech yacht unveiled
By Robin Banerji BBC World Service

A year after he died, a yacht that the co-founder of Apple, Steve Jobs, was working on has finally been launched in the Netherlands.

It's a little under 80m (260 feet) long, made of lightweight aluminium and features 3m (10 feet) high windows.

It is not really called iYacht but....

Should have called Jon Ive in on that one. Now that they've seen it, Samsung will recognize a crisis of flotation and will have their new yacht out in 6 months at which time they will be promptly sued for having the propellers in the back and "method for separating water about a hull" known to everyone else as a bow.

Certainly different, looks like a Lego toy kit; anyways it's shame he never got to see it finished.

Interesting design. I'm not sure how practical the Apple Store-esque bridge is though.

I wonder if there is an Apple store on board with an Apple genius to assist in what ever Apple device emergency that may arise?

Well they will start with Samsung because that is where the money is. But they will then move to smaller boat makers and expect licensing for "A method of passenger transport over water."

Should've painted it blue... Then it'd be a floating IKEA store.

It would look a lot beter if that bottom window set was solid or at least opaque.

Very blocky... it's basically cornered like an iPhone 4.

ok fine it looks like shit. there.

The guy who drove a silver SL55 AMG with no plates and parked in handicapped spots? Sure he wore cheap sneakers, but also wore the $500 Lunor Classic Rund (that's just for the frame)

I had to google Lunor Classic Rund just to know what it was. Goes to show I am not their demographic.

Guessing he only got away with no plates and illegal parking simply by being Steve Jobs. Someone who could threaten to move a large number of jobs out of a city if they dared to ticket or tow him.

Rules like licensure, earned-income taxation, etc. are for the "little people," created by and for the benefit of, the money-changers. The .01% typically are not obliged to follow them. Just how it works...

There must be a lot of Steve Jobs's in Los Angeles. Any new/relatively new BMW 5-series, Mercedes, or better usually does not have plates at all. There are CA exemptions for new cars and other stupid shit that they exploit. I think it's been documented that Steve flipped his car every couple months to stay within the "new to you" car exemption.

Looks somewhat like an early British aircraft carrier from the Battle of Jutland.

One wonders how practical the design is at sea. Any Naval Architect commented yet?

I think the only way to know how well it would do at sea is if said architect could see what it looks like below the water line.

I get the feeling what we cannot see is that on the bottom its likely more normal boat like.

Though... if it where painted white and made shiny...

And now its been impounded, Though this is not over a patent for "floating mansion for rich people." but instead over an unpaid bill.

»www.bbc.co.uk/news/busin ··· 20815910
quote:
Venus, the minimalist high-tech yacht commissioned by the late Apple founder Steve Jobs, has become embroiled in a row over a disputed bill.

French designer Philippe Starck claims Mr Jobs' heirs still owe him 3m euros of a 9m euro fee for the project, according to Dutch paper Het Financieele Dagblad.

Mr Starck called in the debt collectors and had the yacht impounded,

The Port of Amsterdam confirmed that the boat is not allowed to leave.

Jeroen Ranzijn, spokesman for the Port of Amsterdam told the BBC: "The boat is brand new but there is a 3m euro claim on it. The parties will have to fight it out."

Roelant Klaassen, a lawyer representing Mr Starck's company, Ubik, told the Reuters news agency that the boat would remain in port pending payment by lawyers representing Mr Jobs' estate.

"These guys trusted each other, so there wasn't a very detailed contract," he said.

Mr Starck was unavailable for comment.

Gerard Moussault, the lawyer representing the owners of the Venus told the BBC: "I cannot comment at all on this, sorry."

The sleek, 260ft-long (80m) aluminium super-yacht cost 105m euros ($138m; £85m) and was launched in October, at Aalsmeer, The Netherlands.

Mr Starck is known for his striking designs for the Alessi company, including an aluminium lemon squeezer that is shaped like a spaceship.

He collaborated with Steve Jobs for five years on the project, describing the boat as "showing the elegance of intelligence."

The vessel is minimalist in style and is named after the Roman goddess of love and its windows measure 3m (10 feet) in height.

Mr Starck has said that Venus "looks strange for a boat" but said its shape comes from design ideas he shared with Mr Jobs.

Mr Jobs died of pancreatic cancer in 2011 and never saw his boat go to sea.
