So far just a speed dip, download at 15-20 but upload remains at 5. I'm on Ultimate tier, just glad it works.

Don't think I ever lost it in nycap, but it certainly was lagging for a bit last night.

Pretty sure some links between Buffalo and New York City broke last night. No idea what happened specifically but I know some Time Warner connections that usually route through NYC were seeing some latency and taking other routes.

No issues that I noticed in NE Ohio, although my parents seem to be having problems but I can't confirm yet whether it is local (router) or upstream.

What a crock! I had internet during the peak of what was a minor storm in this neck of the woods. Now It went out about a half hour ago with the sun shining and the birds chirping. I am on TWC Albany. My wireless backhaul to get service is fine. Gateways ping fine. So, I call TWC to hear a recorded message saying "Due to the severity of the damage caused by hurricane Sandy, it is taking longer than normal to restore service and answer calls". So I just hung up. WTF? The storm is over and now it goes out? The service was fine until after a morning of sun. Get it working, TWC! Posted from my laptop tethered to my AT&T wireless phone(thank goodness for tethering!).

That's what happened to my phone service and Internet with Verizon back when the October storm hit Buffalo several years ago. All was well through the storm and power outages seen in N.T. and elsewhere. When the sun was out and everything was melting? Everything died.

Perhaps u were on backup power for several hours Einstein. Not like they deliberately cut service to u. Good weather doesn't always reflectbthe health of the network.

Thanks for bringing up bad memories.

After that storm, my buddy in Williamsville canceled his landline after waiting for 4+ weeks for Verizon to fix the lines by his house. He finally got fed up and got rid of it. A coworker of mine in South Buffalo went over a month as well before her phone service was restored.

That was one hell of a night. I got out of work at 7PM that night, and it was snowing but not too bad. I went to Best Buy on the Blvd (Only BB we had back then) to pick up a DVD Player. And things went downhill fast. I didn’t get home until after 1AM going from Amherst to back here to Marilla. What normally would have been a 45 minute drive took me upwards of 5 hours. The 290 was absolutely terrible, the Thruway was as well. I got off at the Depew exit not more than a half an hour before they shut it down. I must have come across a dozen trees blocking the road. To get home, I pretty much had to drive 15-20 miles out of my way because I kept getting detoured due of down trees and powerlines, and at some points, I don’t even know if I was actually driving on the road or not. When I got home my UPS were on their last breath. I was able to use the internet for about 10 minutes. We regained power the next day in the evening. Cable was up, and to my surprise so was the phone. (That’s back when I still had Verizon as my phone provider).

I would consider power outage cause but my whole region has had power since the storm peak passed. They are also on in other parts of the county. What damage would occur after the storm is well past the area by a factor of at least 7 hours? Power outages were brief and only a few areas affected here.

It could simply be an outage that is unrelated to the storm. But because people, resources, and spare equipment are being used to help the outages caused by the storm, it could be slowing down the restoration of other outages.

They don't have unlimited resources I'd imagine. And since NYC took it so hard, they are likely focusing more people there and have less people in the other areas to cope with day to day outages.

Logic would tell me all of that.

i'm noticing a speed loss too... in online game FPS, downloads and
surfing the web everything seems about 33% slower since Monday.
my guess is they could be rerouting traffic through fewer options,
as major routers along the way went offline due to power or water.

or there are simply more people at home online during the storm.
i suspect here in nyc the slowdown will continue as long as the
mass transit system here is down and more people stay at home.

Likely routing. I'd imagine some fiber in that area took it hard, leaving less paths for data to flow. Very likely cause. The issue I posted is totally different because my modem won't sync at all. This area got hit much less than expected, same with Albany as the storm steered itself to the west.

Not quite sure when it went out here in Goshen, NY. I was using it right before the power went out mid evening on Monday. Parents told me they had access for a short period after power was restored this morning. Had to stop into work to bring things back up. I only work a few blocks away and the modem synced up fine there. Came back home after taking care of work and was still out. Pulled up Wireshark, filtered to ICMP and let an indefinite ping to my default gateway run while I went for a walk. Came back to find Wireshark showing replies starting roughly 6:05 PM. Residential Internet and Phone at home while just Business Class Internet at work. No problems since and work was still online last time I went to do a VPN check. Hope this helps!

my Standard 10/1 is back to normal at 10/31:AM EST, so maybe it's people
stuck at home surfing more that's causing slowing, at least for my area
