th3orydot posted : This company is the WORST. Spoke with helpdesk again on Tuesday after receiving no call back after reporting the issue 2 weeks prior. They apologize and determine there is in fact something wrong with the lines and a technician will be out on Thursday.

The tech comes out and speaks to my wife as I'm at the office. She not being technical just listens and relays his results. The guy didn't even troubleshoot the dropping issues. All he had to offer was "you're far from the main office so that will effect your bandwidth". BW is the least of my concerns...a stable connection is all I want at the moment. So I call the helpdesk and they determine that the technician didn't make any changes and the problems still exist. So tomorrow they're sending out another technician.

At this point I don't think they have any idea what the problem is or how to resolve it. It's been going on for well over a month and shows no signs of change. Fortunately I'll be done with this ISP in less than a month.

th3orydot posted : It is in fact the service. Will make the phone call(slams face on desk). I think the MOST frustrating aspect of this DSL situation is; I had AOL DSL like 12 years ago and a machine could remain online for months straight. But even when the service here is relatively sound I'm lucky to go a day or two without any interruption of service. Fortunately the brief outages generally only last a couple minutes it's just baffling that a service can be less adequate than something along the same lines from over a decade ago and supported by AOL. O well, rant over.

Connection issues with Century Link

th3orydot posted : Hi all. I've been fairly happy with CL since moving to a rural area. It's not fios but it's good enough all things considered. I've had the service for over a year now. The router/modem combo we loan from CL recently died(customer service was a nightmare). Ended up going to staples and buying a modem to use in the meantime while waiting a week for the CL replacement(their support people don't carry modems apparently).

It appears all of the wireless connections are stable. But, one hard wired connection since the hardware replacements has had issues. The issues occurred on both the Staples modem and the replacement that recently arrived from CL. SO, I know it's not the modem as it persists on numerous devices.

The issues are occurring are constant drops in connection throughout the day. It lasts for no longer than 5 seconds but it disconnects GTALK and makes me incapable of browsing if I clicked a link during the brief down time. But, it happens anywhere from 3-5 times an hour and it's a massive inconvenience. At no point do I ever see any notification of a network cable being unplugged and if I go to my NIC's lan status it says the duration of the connection is numerous days. Can that rule out a faulty cable? I'll note that I never have to do anything to restore the connection it comes back on it's own. I'm just curious if anyone has any ideas what might be causing the issue. I'm fairly confident that I can rule out the cable as well as the modem/router combo. I also cant imagine it's the service as the other machines on the network don't seem to be experiencing any issues. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
