Re: New HD Guide

Don't be tricked!

»www.shaw.ca/Television/E ··· -HDG-L01
"Outputs 1080p30, 1080p24/30 (HDMI only), 1080i, 720p, 480p, 480i HD formats"

As far as I know (someone correct me if i am wrong) you won't get a signal better than 1080i from Shaw even if your receiver is 1080p capable.

"1080p HD resolution allows you to view TV channel listings in the same amazing HD picture quality that you watch movies in..."
This is extremely misleading as the quality you watch movies in (from Shaw) is 1080i not 1080p, unless they are relying on the wording to mean blueray (home movies) and not anything that shaw can send you. Very misleading indeed.

Essentially all you will see in 1080p (if your TV supports it) is the menu so that you can see their spam advertising at the bottom of the menu at its highest resolution!

My TV is 720p anyway. A CSR told me that there are no upgrade plans as of now, and that more details will be available in spring 2013.

There is some 1080p VOD content, which may or may not be available in your area depending on upgrades done.
