Ok, you are in the western part of the state. Frontier may not count us as being part of WV any longer because it appears that they have recently homed us into Ashburn, VA. I am not sure if this is permanent or not. But our service has been stable.

Hope you get back up soon.

Snowshoe, Champmanville, Clay, Anawalt, Summerville, and Point Pleasant are all down at the moment, and possibly some of the surrounding areas.

That is the areas they told me. No eta on downtime still, but they are issuing credits when service is restored. What really stumps me is that, our area wasn't really affected by sandy, and most of these were not as well.

I was under impression from the news that Snowshoe received a lot of snow. Did you not get snow in Point Pleasant?

Also keep in mind the outage you are having may be the routing from you area goes through an area that was impacted by Sandy.

Ours is still out in Morgantown. It was fine during the storm but went off Wednesday. Does Frontier have an website that shows where they have outages? It seems strange that an Internet company would not provide that.

I'm not aware of any ISP that does this... are there any?

Cox Cable used to have a web site that did, but it has been a long time since I utilized it so I am not certain that it still exist.

Just went to their site and they still have outages listed by specific area.

Well I'm over here in Toledo, Ohio and having all kinds of fun. Where i'm not down, but having issues with DNS like crazy. Some sites work (this is now) and some don't respond or are not found. First thought was a trojan or something (scanning just in case), but man, slow speeds, sites not resolving the names, etc..

Guess I'll wait it out for the night. It happened before not long ago and cleared up later during the night...

That is exactly why I started using OpenDNS several months ago. If the re-home into Ashburn is permanent I may change back to Frontier DNS.

Well actually I've been using alternative DNS servers (and changed back to Frontier's just to see if things worked), just won't resolve names and right now very slow internet. This happened before a few days ago (dns problems, slow speeds) but it resolved itself later in the night.

Have to make up a list of some good reliable DNS Servers and keep them handy.

Edit:

Here's my connection log from my router/modem - it's a mess. Not sure with all the weird names come from though. (this is part of a huge log):

Appears that is may not be a DNS problem per say, but a latency issue.

Ah okay, yeah could be. Just know that it is slow. For a bit I couldn't even reach this page (name wouldn't be resolved). But so far seems to be working ok. Least I can go to websites now. Course speeds are still slow, but I'm sure they get back to normal soon.

Thanks for the info.

I have Frontier, but two blocks south of me they have AT&T (my friend who lives a mile south of me has AT&T). We have access to Buckeye Cable (we use it for TV).
