Sounds like you've convinced yourself that the 500Mbps models are what you need

I have a G access point connected to one of the adapters.
At one elecrical outlet there is a ethernet powerline adapter and a dial tone powerline adapter

I have connected a pair of adapters to a extension cord with no problems

There are powerline adapters with multiple ethernet ports, some have integrated wifi access points

From what I understand, the 500 is a newer protocol. More fault tolerant and better performing. The 500 is supposed to be able to cross over between legs of the transformer as well, while the 200 has trouble with that. I'm not sure if that is just theory or of it works in practice. I know my 500 works across the legs, but I'm not sure if a 200 would not...

Depending on the size of your house, I would install the APs to get maximum "best" coverage. You should plan for "potential" future use. Such as additional wireless devices, like Roku's, TVs, BluRays, etc.

How many AP's are you talking about?

Do you want to have guest ssid?

The simplest / cheapest solution would be to get configurable AP's and some POE injectors for each AP. Such as these »www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a···33168100

Otherwise, get your preferred POE AP(s) and at least get the PowerDsine 3001 POE injector.

FWIW, the only time I checked I was getting just under 30 Mbps running iperf between my wife's Win 7 desktop and a Win 7 laptop. I don't have Gigabit interfaces in the computers or our ZyXEL NBG334W router so that is probably the issue.

They have probably the best recap of them and some decent relative testing methods. My advice would be to avoid the older generation 200 models and stick with the newer 500 models. Stores are getting rid of the 200 stock and for good reason their performance was not that good. Be aware 200 and 500 are must marketing numbers and dont mean anything. View it as 500 as a better design that navigates electrical circuits in a better way.

Another alternative if you have TV cable wires between rooms is to use a cable adaptor pair (very similar). Overall your on the right track at a reasonable connection plan besides drilling.

(note on charts above the netgear nano results are so much better solely based on plugging two units in the same receptacle (sender unit and receiving unit, so the results are marginally better in reality than the other strong 500 series performers).
