[Extreme Plus] DPC3825 and 150/10 possible?

Can my Cisco DPC3825 really achieve these speeds, or do I need a modem swap? I only seen max 5.5mb/s (44mbit so far). They advertise 150/10.

Model: Cisco DPC3825
Vendor: Cisco
Hardware Revision: 1.0
Serial Number: 0000000000
MAC Address: 0000000000
Bootloader Revision: 2.3.0_R3
Current Software Revision: dpc3825-v302r125533-111108a-ROG
Firmware Name: dpc3825-v302r125533-111108a-ROG.bin
Firmware Build Time: Nov 8 18:12:42 2011
Cable Modem Status: Operational
Wireless Network: Enable

I would appreciate some advice. All the cables from the house to the box/inside house replaced my rogers when original installation time.

The Cisco DPC3825 supports 150/10.

Alex, the 3825 supports well over 150mbit.

It's up to and likely Rogers hasn't finished fine tuning the cable nodes and plants even if your modem says you have bonded channels.

Could be due to improper provisioning of your modem, node congestion or perhaps your computer's ethernet card only supports up to 100mbps.

Just got off the phone with Rogers, and they will NOT provision my 3825 at 150/10. The system apparently requires the Hitron.

Keep trying...you don't need the hitron for 150/10.

I know that, you know that, but Rogers sales doesn't seem to. I need the product code for 150/10 with the 3825.

update: Stopped by the local Rogers store. Their brochure didn't have the new 150/10 listed, but the old 75/2 specified that it required the Enhanced Wifi Gateway (ie: Hitron).

update 2: the rep at the store did some checking, and nobody will authorize the 3825. The only possibility would be if I were to purchase the modem, which seems unlikely.

The product code for 150/10 with the 3825 is the exact same one as the one with the Hitron. These reps are just stonewalling you because they're too lazy to check their knowledge base to confirm the compatibility requirements.

They all know the 3825 is a D3 modem. It's the system that tells them 150/10 requires the Hitron. If you can suggest a way around that, I'd appreciate it.

I just checked with some of my internal sources and they confirm that the 3825 CAN be used with the 150/10, however the modem itself must be migrated onto a different product code. Normally the SMC and Cisco D3 modems are issued under the same product code, however there is a product code exclusive to the Cisco gateway that is seldom used for simplicity purposes. They will have to move your Cisco gateway onto the Cisco gateway only code, I don't know exactly what it is but it's labelled D3v2 Rental/Purchase etc. You can try calling in and having them switch you to this code but you MAY have to bring your cisco gateway in and swap it for another cisco one due to a system limitation.

First off, thanks to yyzlhr for the indepth analysis.

Not to put too fine a point on it but this info just validates my assertion that 99% of the network problems are Rogers fault and responsibility.

These D3 8x4 Gateways come from the factory with firmware capable of theoretical 300/150mbps performance and IPv6 ready.

Once Rogers uses the MAC/serial to activate the modem on the network there is no valid reason why 150/10 cannot be achieved easily with no further interference/adjustment from Rogers period.

Nobody but nobody is going to accept the fact that "I just paid $149 and tax for a DPC3825 but I have to return it because Rogers screwed up the numbers on their end"

Either Rogers can deliver 150/10 across the footprint or they can't. Plain and simple.

Switching your modem doesn't mean you'll be on the 150/10. You must request the tier as it costs extra.

Well, yes, that was my goal from the start. Since I'm getting 70% off internet and modem rental, I might as well maximize my savings.

Edit: yyzlhr, the process you specified worked perfectly. I went to my local Rogers store, the rep found the code, swapped the 3825 for another one to get it on the 150/10 tier, and then swapped it back to my original modem.

Thank you very much for finding that for me.

You have to call Rogers and ask to be upgraded to the 150/10 plan. Then you wait a while, and maybe reboot your modem once or twice.

I just confirmed this is accurate. The very helpful rep I spoke to was excellent and able to change the product code to D3v2 as stated above -- and after a cable modem restart everything worked right away. The rep told me that for some reason Rogers "discontinued" that product code, which is why a lot of the newer reps don't know about it, but it is still available and usable. He didn't know why and agreed it didn't make much sense.

The modem swap is only necessary if the account has some "terms and conditions" related to the product code associated with the modem -- if so, then a modem swap clears those and allows the change.

Since you said you "left my result up" I assume that means you and the Rogers rep are both testing from the same PC? I'm asking because one computer in my house was getting 250mbps from speedtest.net, and another (newer) computer only got 90mbps. In my case it was due to an old crossover cable being used, which was not compatible with gigabit.

So assuming something like that isn't the case, are you and the Rogers rep using the same server to test against at speedtest.net? There's only 2 or 3 that I've ever been able to hit 250mbps at, most of the others are well below 100mbps, so that could be another reason.

I wish you luck in trying to use a DPC3825...I tried but gave up after 3 failed attempts to get a CSR that knew how!

Did you happen to put the DPC3825 into "bridge mode" (it's a method that if you want to use your own wireless router, etc.)? I'm just curious to ask...
