 | [Cable] Cable Modem Signal Hi Team,
Could you please review my cablemodem stats below and let me know if everything is OK?
Thanks in advance, D
Downstream Value Frequency 615000000 Hz Locked Signal to Noise Ratio 39 dB Power Level -2 dB
Upstream Value Channel ID 6 Frequency 38596000 Hz Ranged Power Level 48 dBmV |

 | Yes, those signal levels are pretty good.
To give you an idea here is what we look for on the Rogers network:
Downstream: Signal to Noise: 32+ Power Level: -11 to 11
Upstream: Power Level: 35 to 52 -- TSI Keith (E-Services) - TekSavvy Solutions Inc. Authorized TSI employee ( » TekSavvy FAQ »Official support in the forum ) |

 | Thanks Keith. I appreciate the quick response and the baseline. D |

 | reply to TSI Keith I'm having issues, I'm on the 18 MEG plan..
Forward Path: Power: 44.7 SNR: 38.0
Return Path: Power: 44.7

 | Well unless that's a typo I definitely don't like the looks of your forward path power. Can you please post in the direct forum here: » TekSavvy Direct with your account info so we can see about opening a ticket for you?

Sunfox join:2003-12-14 Markham, ON 1 edit | reply to TSI Keith For the past, I don't know, 15 years my signal has been 0 to +3db on my cable line, with about 38db SN. I have also never had any problem getting full speeds. I checked last week after a truck ripped down the MAIN TRUNK LINE on the street and they repaired it, and everything was still that way.
Tonight, I have this:
Cable Signal Details
Forward Path: Channel Frequency Power SNR BER Modulation 1 633.0 MHz -10.4 dBmV 34.4 dB 0.000 % 256 QAM 2 591.0 MHz -10.4 dBmV 35.5 dB 0.000 % 256 QAM 3 597.0 MHz -10.3 dBmV 34.8 dB 0.000 % 256 QAM 4 603.0 MHz -10.4 dBmV 34.3 dB 0.000 % 256 QAM 5 609.0 MHz -10.5 dBmV 34.8 dB 0.000 % 256 QAM 6 615.0 MHz -10.6 dBmV 34.4 dB 0.000 % 256 QAM 7 621.0 MHz -10.4 dBmV 34.7 dB 0.000 % 256 QAM 8 639.0 MHz -10.6 dBmV 34.3 dB 0.000 % 256 QAM

Sunfox join:2003-12-14 Markham, ON | Holy frig! In order to get a 12db signal drop with 13% lost packets looked at, I have to answer a 19 question survey with multiple pings/traceroutes/ipconfigs while being directly connected to the modem!
Seems like I'd save a heck of a lot of time if I just go disconnect the fricking line in the Rogers box and have them go from there! |

I know it can be a pain to complete all of the troubleshooting. We don't mean to be difficult by any means, but our vendor will reject the ticket if we don't include full troubleshooting.
Sorry about the trouble. Hope your connection is back to normal soon.
Take care, TSI-Ashley |

Sunfox join:2003-12-14 Markham, ON | Eh... the problem is this morning, although the signal is still much lower than it should be, I'm not getting the same packet loss as last night - in fact at this very second my speed is fine.
I'm going to have to "hope" the problem comes back, or I'm probably going to end up with one of those lines that goes bad only at night and in the rain. I suspect it's a bad terminator job or the result of the splice they put in the middle of the line 2 weeks ago when they repaired it. |

At least the performance is back to normal, for now. Just let us know if you ever need assistance, and we'll certainly try to get it fixed as soon as we can. Hope you have a good day.

Dan. Dude if the forward path power is indeed 44.7db unplug that modem!! That is way too much power for the consumer level equipment to handle, it can burn out prematurely! -- Hello |

Dan. Dude if the forward path power is indeed 44.7db unplug that modem!! That is way too much power for the consumer level equipment to handle, it can burn out prematurely! Forward isn't 44.7dbmv...he'd have to be right on the trunk amp, and the tap plate would have to be zero....
I've never seen a zero tap plate...so, somethings up there...either modem is not reporting properly or is a typo... |

Wonder what would explain a temporary 12db power loss? |
