[OS X] !st Gen Intel Macbook Pro - questions

Picked up a first generation Macbook Pro (dual core, 2 gig, 90 gig disk) for free

The box runs great - runs Snow Leopard. This machine is more responsive than my Win7 i5 work laptop!!

Some questions:

Do I have any upgrade options to get to at least lion? Officially Lion or ML are not supported but is there a way to get either loaded?

Does anyone know if I can get iMessages Beta to load - again officially SL is not supported.

If I wanted to install an SSD - are there any specific hardware requirements?

Any other suggestions for this era hardware are welcome!!

Thanks

I put an SSD in one of these a few weeks ago for a client with no issues.

Are there any specific hardware requirements for the SSD or can I just hunt for the right size at a good price and go with that??

No requirements. I used a 120G OCZ and it went right in.

Nope it just has to be 2.5" 9mm height SSD, and of course SATA interface. don't waste money on a SATA3 SSD, that MacBook only has SATA1 or SATA2 interface at best. So a SATA2 (or a larger hard drive) will be fine.

It's already got 2GB ram and thats as much as it will take.

I have one of these as well and it still works great.

You can't run Lion because it has a CoreDuo (not a Core2Duo - in other words, no 64 bit support).
