About time looks like the 28/1 will be bumped to 35/3. Does that mean tsi user will get that also?

good question, but the last speedbump that was the case.... also the reason why epsilon3 is giving tsi the headsup that on dec 1 they might be getting calls about congestion..:) ...i'd be surprised if rogers hadn't already contacted teksavvy yet (although it sounded like the last speedbump they weren't notified)

No that's Rogers, they don't reveal their secrets, this happened during the last "upgrade" where TSI ran out of bandwidth because of the unplanned upgrades by Rogers.

So a roughly 25% increase in download speed matched with a 300% increase in upload is going to put another dent into everyone's bandwidth forecasts.

I need to get a D3 modem my SB5100 has reached the end of it's life
--
No, I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake.......

Apparently the 18/0.5 is being bumped to 25/2 as well.

Yeah if you want the new speeds a D3 modem is where you need to be at.

I'm so pumped for this announcement. I know us TSI users would probably see these speeds until early 2013 but knowing when it's coming is helpful for planning out a few things

I wonder what the upstream speed will be once they roll out the higher upload speeds.

I suppose. with all the upgrades and DHCP issues we've seen... we could know that *something* was coming.

Upstream speed for which tier? This is what is currently known via messages from bigRed »[Extreme Plus] New Speeds Effective December 1st

Ultimate: 75/150 download - 7/10 upload (Depends on area what you get)
Extreme Plus: 45/4
Extreme: 35/3
Express: 25/2
Lite: 6/256kb (Changes Unknown)

*All speeds in Mbps unless otherwise specified

Reopening the massive gap between Lite and Express levels of service! 25/2 is a nice no-brainer service level for all but the most frugal customers--very few people will need anything else.

Now that Docsis 2 isn't appropriate for Express, it really is on its last legs. Too bad, lots more perfectly good hardware going to hit the trash for lack of a service level between 6mbit and 25mbit..

I would hazard a guess the 6/256 is the new upgrade for the Lite line. Kinda bummed that the upstream is still 256k though.

Marc, can you inquire with Rogers when they plan to speedmatch the two tiers that they are providing on TPIA non aggregated?

This may affect you again ...

and now that package isnt worth it
so they will and tek will lose money
haha and now you see why you should not have dealt with rogers....they can't keep there word.

i had 4 megabit upload speed in 99 with them....before there downgrading and there capping began....
and who cares about more download speed like 28 or 32 megabit is much difference when they kill upload speed it really does matter

Looks like I can downgrade my Internet service. I don't need 28/1. I need 25/2! Save myself $8/month

Well, it isn't clear. D2 is theoretically capable of 2mbit upload (in fact 2.7mbit per this »docsis.org/node/69), and I know for sure you are right that they will allow 28/1 on D2 now. We don't know if Rogers will allow 2mbit upload on D2 modems though..

I might be jumping the gun.. D2 may still be worth considering for the budget minded on 25/2 service. Node congestion will mean that you won't get anywhere near 25mbit down during peak hours though.

Can't speak to sustained at those levels, but I speed-boost to 24mbit down on the 18/0.5 package on a D2 modem during peak hours.

Other than Ultimate these seem like speed tiers pre-upstream speed bumping.

Good luck getting the service to operate properly with a D2 modem even if they they would provision it.

On the bright side, I no longer have to joke about how I can barely get 1(mbps) up(load).

Not really, their only legal obligation is filing the new tariffs with the CRTC which doesn't happen right away.

Last time there was an upgrade (early March) Tek customers got it at the same time as Rogers customers.
