Re: New speeds Rogers cable - Teksavvy watch out

Actually one side of Rogers wants wholesale customers and the other side doesn't.

That's most likely due to speed boost. Do you normally get results in that range?

Yeah it's always in that range. I am in between Kitchener and Waterloo down town. P2P tops out around 28mbps though.

Hoping for some faster upload speeds. Hurry Teksavvy! lol

Teksavvy doesn't hold the decision on speed matching or updates.. Rogers right now is before the CRTC on this, and the CRTC has to ORDER Rogers to do it... if they even will.

TSI is not yet on the aggreated model, until that comes to pass you will not see higher speeds and rates to match. Have a heart though as this proccess of moving to aggreated POI model is being proccessed bit by bit throughout year. I wouldn't be expecting any announcements right away though because this proccess will take time.

Meanwhiles, at least on cable, we're also still waiting to hear about a CRTC decision regarding speed matching on the Rogers last mile. This should be occurring in the next two or three weeks.

These two issues above are sepparate and distinct, so don't get them confused.

So lets be patient and see what transpires.

Cheers.

For Start: My memory could be wrong, but it would appear the cap on the 39.95 package has dropped from 200 to 150 gig. Only in Canada do speeds go up and caps drop.

As for TSI's connection model.. Higherspeeds could happen IF the CRTC orders rogers to match the speeds. That decision has not yet been released. IF they rule Rogers has to match the speeds, TSI and Acanac/Distributel will both have access to the same speeds as start. (Which they should)

You are correct. Start had to lower the usage on the plans sa the capacity rates are killing them. Rocca explained this in a detailed post within the new packages thread.

The same could happen to TSI once APOI is rolled out, unless of course the CRTC wakes up and makes the capacity pricing more realistic.

If you check the thread in Canadian Broadband, Rocco states its because of the insane capacity costs - which are expected to drop (in some cases quite a bit) once the R&Vs are completed. At which point, caps will go back up.

This is more of an editorial, but it's related to this topic:

I know this goes against the monopoly of Rogers and Bell, but CAPS should be the same across the board for all speed tiers, set at a level to curb abuse. Even the US ISP's seem to get this. Here they are too focused on control and using it as another revenue stream because us Canadians are too complacent. IF you pulled these type of thing in the STATES, customers would drop your company like flies! This results in back-peddling by the greedy company.

I'm not blaming the TPIA guys or the Wholesale ISP's... The Blame is the CRTC, ROGERS, TELUS, BELL. I've said this before.. The time has come we need to drop this ridiculous ownership rules and allow REAL competition to enter the market place. Only then would we see real choice, fair price, and less of the anti-customer games.

Sweet jesus.. 45/4 from start.

At least it's only around 5 months before I can get 250/15 from Shaw when I move.

I think that will be like getting the internet all over again

Does it matter? Rogers can't track your usage anyways.

They can now with aggregated. They just don't have a usage monitor implemented yet.

Agreed. That being said, much as I like TSI and their service, if they don't get the speed match from the CRTC that 35/3 plan from Start is going to be nearly irresistible. Even with my referrals I'm paying $42/month for 28/1. $8 extra to triple my upload speeds is not something I can pass up for long.

Everything is so much easier if we can just win the speed match battle underway right now.

agreed, it's impossible to actually upload any decent data these days with 1mbit. I'm going to be cancelling and placing an order with Start and I'll even jump up to the 45/4 package for the extra 1mbit upload. previously that package didn't make much sense since all you got was an extra 3-4mbit downstream and same upstream.

It seems that Teksavvy is tracking how much you use... Thanks for letting us know guys.
