I was told they updated the iGuide in July in order to provide better features, such as Look Back. The interface is totally different. Whether or not the new system is better is subjective. When I first got it, I hated it. But, a main reason is that the user interface is not intuitive and there is no help. As I played with it and found workarounds and got the rhythm of the interface it isn't as bad as I once thought.
dabhome posted : They removed it (or should I say it never existed) from Navigator software. iGuide had it, but Navigator does not.

Now that I have a button which automatically sets 3x fast forward and than play (with lag support) I actually like it better. And interestingly enough I actually see less commercials.

David

cmcasey79 posted : David,

(edit, now that I am home and have the remote in my hand...) Try using the F2 button on the remote. That should be the 30 second skip button... I don't have a DCX-3510, but it works on my DCX-3400 and previous BHN Motorola cable boxes. Is this something they removed on the 3510?
--
- cmcasey79, BrightHouse RoadRunner Turbo, Farmington Hills, MI

Workaround for lack of 30 second fast forward

dabhome posted : When I joined Bright House I was extremely disappointed to discover that there is no 30 second fast forward capability. To me this is an extremely important feature (and not just to skip commercials).

I also was disappointed to find out the biggest button on the remote control only goes to paid premium on-demand. Probably the least used feature (by me) and accessible in other ways.

All of this was made even worse because the Fast-Forward and Play buttons are hard to find in the dark (at least for me.) I often hit other keys causing me grief.

However, I have discovered a workaround for both problems. This is specifically for the UR5L remote control which comes with the DCX-3510.

Basically, it turns out you can make a macro out of the On-Demand key, not just the macro keys. The remote also allows you to set up multiple macros per key.

I set up the On-Demand button to select fast-forward key 3 times the first time the button is selected. The second time it selects the play key.

This allows me to hit the On-Demand key to fast forward 3x and than hit it again to play. The On-Demand key is easy to find and it works very well.

The commands for changing the On-Demand key are:

1. Select the Cable button and than Select OK and On-Demand at the same time until the Cable button lights up (for 30 seconds).
2. Select Fast-Forward button three times.
3. Select Stop button (this ends the macro and allows you to enter the next macro).
4. Select Play button and than the Stop button.
5. Select the Channel-Up button. This saves the macros and the Cable light should blink twice.

Let me know what you think about this solution.

David
