Well, I'm more likely to lose the tiny adapter than the cable, and the adapter costs the same as a cable! Might as well just buy an extra cable.
Where this little adapter wins is when you're traveling and are bringing more than just Apple devices so you'll have microUSB chargers along for the ride anyway.
