After Embarq and CenturyTel merged to become CenturyLink, their support people stopped responding directly to posts on this forum. All they do now is post a message telling you to send a detailed email to: firstname.lastname@example.org
The support person you talked to is looking out for himself. That's likely how he has survived 25 years. He got rid of a potential 'problem customer' with a story that can't be proven, or tied back to him. Everyone is happy, except for the new customer that went back to the old ISP.
