I have a Asus M4A78T-E motherboard that will support 16 gig of ram total. I'm planning to upgrade my OS to Windows 8, the 64 bit edition. The mother board has 4 slots for memory sticks. Ok, what I'm asking here is, will I be able to install 2 sticks of 8 gig of ram, one in each channel and have my pc recognize it as 16 gig ram in total under a 64 bit operating system. Summary, 2 slots, one in each "channel" will have a 8 gig stick of ram installed and the other 2 slots will be empty. Just asking if this will or should work before I decide which ram to buy. Another thought, will each slot only recognize a 4 gig stick of ram at max, so 4 slots x 4 gig sticks = 16 gig ram total, I don't know. Yes I realize the ram has to be the right memory type / speed / Mhz that this motherboard will accept but this is about the memory size.
