2. Wireless function configured easily---up and running in 5 minutes.
3. It dawned on me after researching question about Westell 327w on CenturyLink that everybody mentioned having to log in to home page of router and for access to other stats. BUT NOT ME!
4. The Westell of course is password protected for connection and custom password protected for admin privileges
5. My browser is Mozilla Firefox 15.0.1. I didn't have any reason to go to Westell stats page in months and months. I entered page and just like always I brought up whatever page to start with and then I move around freely NO PASSWORD REQUIRED or asked for (even with provider password set and custom admin password set!!)
6. I entered maintenance then to "Administrative Password" no problem and no pop up for authentication. It's been so long that I don't remember the first time I went here to change default password if I was prompted for authentication.
7. Anyway for good measure, I decided to change my Admin password and no problem that I could see.....BUT
8. It's interesting that Firefox finally popped up for authentication /user name and password. Then it wanted to know if I wanted to save password. I entered the info but opted NOT to save password in Firefox. I confirmed that password for the page is not saved because page is in EXCEPTIONS.
9. Later, upon returning to exact same spot, I was not prompted for authentication. Yet if I use IE8 to do the same thing, I am prompted every time when I get to this point (Maintenance/Administrative password).
10. Finally --- I noticed that NoScript and cookies were NOT permanently enabled in Firefox for »192.168.1.1/transtat.htm SO, I enabled them both and to my surprise, Firefox finally prompts me every time in order to enter Administrative Password within the Westel327 router Maintenance tab.
Note: I only bore you with this because it appears to this uninitiated user that with scripting and cookies disabled, the browser could go straight in to Administrative Password and make changes---which by the way is exactly how I did it. Weird.
Please forgive me if this question does not belong in CenturyLink forum. | | bcoolPremium join:2000-08-25 The Ozarks 3 edits | Westell 327w D90-327W14-06 on CenturyLink console login? Ok, too much info above. Sorry. I've distilled the issue to the following question:
What did I do way back in 2007 in settings so that I am NOT prompted for user/passw to enter the console of my Westell 327w router? DO NOT MISUNDERSTAND ME. There are certain areas within the console, for instance, Wireless configuration, that does in fact trigger a prompt for admin user/passw......but generally to just enter the console, I am not prompted at all.
There must be a setting I changed way back when so that I don't have to enter user/passw just to view some innocuous stats. But I can't remember where or how I did it. Yes...I do worry just a bit that somehow this leaves my console vulnerable. Does this have to do with the fact that I'm automatically logged into CenturyLink dsl network each time I boot to my Windows desktop... with no manual input from me??
Thanks. -- "in flagrante delicto" | | |
