[OOL] Problems With OOL

Hello, for about a week now I have been having weird issues with OOL. At what seems to be random times, OOL will just stall when trying to do anything online such as loading web pages and if I am on a VOIP call using google voice and gmail, the call will get dropped. This is very annoying. Anyone else in the zip code of 11206 having trouble with OOL? I really do not know what is going on but I will post my signal information in case if anyone here can spot a pssible issue but looking at the signal statistics. Sorry if I do not sound specific as I do not really know how to explain what is going on. Here are signal statistics.

Sounds like packet loss perhaps. Post some pings & tracerts to google.com or other sites. Wonder if related to Sandy, did this happen prior to the storm hitting?

Same thing for me in North NJ.

My OOL was out since 10/29/2012 - 11/2/2012 and it came back 11/2/2012 afternoon.

Ever since then it has very very frequent packet loss and modem reboots 15m-20m intervals. It was still doing it this morning...hopefully they've made some progress because it's really bad.

But it looks like those Total Uncorrectable Codewords 8 are the culprit. Pretty sure there is nothing that can be done by the end user.

8 uncorrectables out of 55974059 (.0000143% error rate) is not a problem.

That may be true but I don't believe that total, it's in the hundred thousand to millions as soon as it powers on. Also when my modem was working correctly I would have 0 correctable and 0 uncorrectable. It may not be the root cause but it's most likely a symptom.

Is the cable modem lying??

The OP said they've had issues for about a week, that likely means the modem has been on for some time. How can you assume it was just powered on?

And it's unrealistic to never expect a correctable or uncorrectable codeword. Both will occur in operation and neither are an issue or signs of an issue unless they are a high percentage of the total codewords. 0.00013% correctable and 0.000014% uncorrectable doesn't seem to indicate a problem to me.

The trace shows intermittent packet loss. The T3 time outs etc and the packet loss could be caused by Intermittent noise. You say for a week, was it occurring before the storm? Make sure there are no loose coax connections. Unfortunately I suspect that CV may be busy trying to get service up for those who still have problems and may be hard pressed to try and find an intermittent problem at this moment.

yes I noticed it started to occur a day or two before the storm. Not really sure what to make of this. The connections are tight. Anyone else having issues like this? Maybe I should disconnect the coax from the splitter and cable modem and then reconnect them an see if that helps? Just to get an idea on how weird this issue is, I am currently watching a video online but trying to surf the web is just a headache. Pages just time out and do not load. I'm lucky that this site loads. Thanks.

Hi! I'm in area code 11206 brooklyn also and internet has been awful lately with pages not loading and very slow speed at random times. It's really upsetting me. I've been with optimum online since 2004 and this is the first time I am experiencing dial up type speeds.

Have you called it in to support?

When did this start for you Anthor12. I have called support on Wednesday to report this issue and was told that there was trouble in the area and that someone would be out here yesterday between the hours of 11AM and 2PM. Yesterday came and went and nobody showed up. Since everything seemed ok for most of the day yesterday, I thought that maybe they did not have to come to my place and fixed it from outside but then it started acting up again last night with pings timing out and packet loss. When this happens, I am unable to get a dial tone and if I am on the phone will loose the call at times. I have posted a message to the Optimum Direct forums here and waiting for a response. Things are working alright at the moment which is why I am able to post on here but there is no telling when it will start acting up again. Also doing speed tests show that the upload is not working correctly. Sometimes the upload will come up as 0.5Mbps or will not finish at all. I have no trouble with cable tv and can view on demand programs without any issues.

@optonline.net

I've been having issues one week before Hurricane Sandy. Then a technician came and replaced my cisco heatoven modem to an Arris TM822 that is almost cool to the touch. Still had some online issues with slow down. Then Hurricane Sandy came and split my cable apart because apparently a technician decided to split my cable outside, putting a splitter on it. So it disconnected for a whole week. I was credited. Technician came and installed a new cable. Since then random issues with speed, pages taking about 2-5 minutes to load. It happens randomly which makes it so upsetting. I can never tell exactly when it happens can happen anytime of the day or night.

I've tried everything...removing power, coaxial, renewing IP address...believe it or not I even did a clean windows install on my computer!

I've called last night and it's saying there is a service issue with area code 11206. I really hope that is the problem and not just something that is only occurring in my building.

Same here. I cannot tell when it happens only notice that it is happening. So far it's been working today. It happens at random times. When you called and was told that there is a service issue in this area, were you told that by someone or was it a recording that said it. Thanks.

Anthor12

@optonline.net

^
When I called yesterday it was a recording that said zip code 11206 has a service outage technicians are working on.

So far today I am not getting the dreaded packet loss, slow down, issues. Let's hope it stays that way.

Looks like you and I have identical service issues with Optimum Online.
