Re: Time Warner Boosting Standard Speed to 15Mbps Just got upgraded. Network went down, then came back.
20/1 now, was 15/1.
Really wanted more upload. |

 | reply to Dampier Reboot modem and got 15/1 too. Recently test OOL speed test and Powerboost kick in at 2.2mb then slow down to stable 1.8mb -- Curious about Sprint improved 3G and growing 4G LTE network? Then check it out at www.s4gru.com

| reply to Dampier Based on what people said, I rebooted my modem too. Did a 100 MB download from various test servers (NorCal, Dallas, Tokyo, and London) and maintained a pretty consistent 1.7 MB/s (13.6 Mbps) after the powerboost ended. Which is an improvement as previously I got 1.1 MB/s (8.8 Mbps). |
|
 | reply to Dampier so just to be clear, does one need a D3 modem to take full advantage of the 15/1 upgrade? I have a SB5101 now...
and has this 15/1 upgrade come to Upstate NY (Syracuse)? |
|
 | Well this upgrade has been a real downgrade at night:

Every night since the upgrade has been this.
I suspect my pings swing above 300 or so |

You suspect? Run traces/pings. Suspecting does not cut it.

Looks like I'm having the same experience as Konaguy had when they upgraded there, thinking about downgrading until they get their network issues fixed. This is pretty bad.
Going to google soon anyway. |

thorin join:2007-11-08 Liberty, MO | have you looked at signal levels? called into tier 3? had anyone out? There have been a lot of upgrades in the KC area lately. If it is simply a utilization issue a D3 modem would alleviate that problem. |
|
 | Yea everything looks good. During the day I get a solid 20 Meg's, come 7pm till 11 I get less than 1 meg. I don't have time to call the, at the moment, and I'm not too concerned. |

 | Just got my speed bump a couple days ago.
I was just going to come here to ask, and now I see it's official.
Nice.
When it comes to internet speed, the USA is among the slowest and most expensive in the 1st world.
Since most people in my neighborhood use u-verse, I'm enjoying full 15mbit 24/7 |

Going to google soon anyway. Sheesh, those speeds are horrible. They're much worse than I got a year and half ago after Oceanic upgraded the speed tiers here. |

 | Unfortunately I don't have the time or the energy to fight with them right now.
I'm counting the days until I can switch to google fiber. |

 | reply to Dampier I don't think it was asked yet, but will Turbo be upgraded as well? Paying $20 more for 5 Mbps doesn't make a whole lot of sense. |

Nick21 join:2010-02-03 New York, NY | reply to Dampier I think I'm going to downgrade to Extreme or Turbo, paying $100 for 50/5 is a waste right now. These speed increases should be done to all tiers not just the cheapest one. |

What are they thinking? They even discussed the lack of a take rate on the 50/5 tier on their earnings call.
Comcast is at 50/15 at this price point.
The only thing I can think of is that they haven't rolled out upstream bonding/added downstream channels across their footprint so they may feel like they don't have the capacity yet. We're still at 4x1 in LA. -- AT&T U-Hearse - RIP Unlimited Internet 1995-2011 Rethink Billable.

thorin join:2007-11-08 Liberty, MO 1 edit | reply to motoracer I am sure Turbo will be upgraded as well, its just a matter of when for each division. Especially with the recent changes being made to the lower tiers. |

Paying $20 more for 5 Mbps doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I seem to recall the last time we had speed boosts like this, it took quite awhile (many months) before Turbo was upgraded in our area. I think the best way to send a message is downgrade service. When they see the higher standard speed cannibalizing their Turbo tier, it will get boosted. -- Phillip M.
